The Tamil Nadu Higher Education department has postponed all the semester exams in all educational institutions in the state to the start of the next academic year.

With the extension of the complete lockdown in the country until May 3, the Tamil Nadu Higher Education department has postponed all the semester exams in deemed universities, engineering, arts, and science, polytechnic and other colleges in the state to the start of the next academic year.

As per the press release, the state government will soon notify students about the dates of the reopening of colleges and universities, after reviewing the coronavirus situation. The revised exam date sheets will only be released after the start of the next semester, and it is applicable to all the higher education institutions in the state.

Usually, the new academic year begins in June, however, due to the present health crisis, it is unclear when the academic session will start.

In a letter to all registrars of state universities and deemed universities, Higher Education Secretary Apoorva said " Currently, most of the educational institutions around the state have been identified as the quarantine facility. Hence, it is requested to conduct the start of the semester exams in the next academic year."

She also suggested that the examinations should be rescheduled to avoid any breaks and if required, conduct exams in morning and afternoon sessions.

"The department is making several arrangements to ensure the final examination results are released at the earliest," she added.

Several educational institutions around the state have started online classes to cover the courses and have requested students to prepare for the semester examination during this lockdown period.
