Coronavirus Impact: Telangana to promote first, second year college students
No student in the first or second year of degree programmes will be detained this year, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education directed all colleges and universities.
Telangana State Council of Higher Education has directed all colleges and universities in the state to not detain any first or second-year students studying in degree programmes this year. Osmania University, through its social media handle, informed students of the Council's decision.
Due to the nation-wide coronavirus lockdown, it has become difficult for universities and colleges to conduct the examination. Hence, the Telangana government has decided to promote all degree students who are studying in the first or second year to the next year. However, students would need to clear their backlogs next year.
This year the 50 per cent credit rule will not be applicable, the council clarified. As per the rule, the first and second-year students need to secure at least 50 percent credits in order to get promoted to next year. The council is giving a one-time exception and the rule is not applicable for the students in the first or second year of the current academic year.
T Papi Reddy, Chairman, Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) said that even though degree examinations will be conducted, no student in the first or second year will be detained.
University/college examinations in Telangana have been postponed as per University Grant Commission (UGC) order in light of the coronavirus crisis.
However, many Universities and colleges in the state have started taking online classes to avoid any academic loss.
