In the wake of coronavirus pandemic, engineering students of Sona College of Technology and engineers of Vee Technologies, Bengaluru have designed ‘Corona-Support’ and ‘Corona-Scan’ apps. According to Sona College, ‘Corona-Scan’ pro-actively permits public health officials to mark people who are in close proximity with a probably infected or active Corona Virus patient. ‘Corona-Support’ is a corresponding user app that asks the public for their intentional registration. If a person tests positive, a voluntary status update can be feed in the app, assisting health authorities and experts in tracking the spread of the virus to get appropriate information. The ‘Corona-Support’ app is envisioned to be of huge value to anyone wishing to protect the community from further spread.

Under the mentorship of Prof Akilandeswari J and the engineering team of Vee Technologies, the third-year engineering students of Sona College of Technology -- Bernotsha, Aravind Kumar and Naveen Kumar have developed the app pair ‘Corona-Scan’ and ‘Corona-Support’. The ‘Corona-Scan’ app generates live data of people in close proximity to one another by recording and tracking people within three to five metres every two minutes. By marking people who may have been diseased and risk infecting others, public health officials can recognize and take suitable action to connect with them over the phone and keep them under scrutiny, isolation or endorse testing.

The ‘Corona-Scan’ app recognizes the number of times a person has been in close proximity to the infected person in the chosen period. While the ‘Corona-Scan’ app will be available to public health officials, the ‘Corona-Support’ app can run on any smartphone. The individual who voluntarily downloads the app is asked to register by furnishing name and phone number.
