Allahabad University is chalking out all possible ways to help students staying at girls hostel on campus to reach their respective homes safely.

Allahabad University (AU) has announced that it is taking all possible steps to ensure all students still residing in campus girls hostels reach home safely.

There are six girls hostels on the AU campus, and many students had left for their home before the lockdown. However, there are a lot of students who got stranded as they were planning to return once the lockdown is announced, the university said.

Although varsity is providing all the facilities to these students many of them are scared of the current situation and want to return to their home until the situation gets normal.

One of the students staying in the hostel said that the hostel mess is providing us food and we are able to take basic essential things from the grocery shop which has been kept open since the lockdown. However, with no cash in the ATM kiosk inside the campus, we are running out of money. With the rising number of cases of coronavirus our parents are also worried and wish to see us home as soon as possible.

R R Tiwari, AU’s officiating vice-chancellor said that they have directed the Dean of Student Welfare (DSW), hostel warden and superintendents, to prepare a list of students who wish to go back home. In the meantime, we are looking out for all the possibilities to send these students to their hometown safely.

We are planning to hire additional vehicles and make a route to drop these students, he added.

In order to ensure their safety while they travel to their hometown by the vehicles given by the university, we will provide a women faculty member and a guard to accompany them, Tiwari said.
