The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has begun online classes for the students, to avoid any academic loss during the ongoing 21-days lockdown imposed in the country.

The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has announced that it has started giving online classes to the students, to ensure their studies are not hampered amidst ongoing coronavirus lockdown nationwide.

We have more than 100 affiliated colleges and a large number of students are enrolled with us in various professional courses. In order to make sure they don't suffer during this complete lockdown, we have adopted ICT-based learning platforms both at the university and college level, GGSIPU said in a statement.

We have taken several initiatives to provide online classes to all the students, to ensure that the academic calendar is not hindered due to this nationwide lockdown. The initiatives taken by us are as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the University Grant Commission (UGC). The MHRD and UGC had earlier asked all Central and State universities, institutions and colleges to inculcate online learning in their respective pedagogy, to ensure the blended form of learning is provided to the students, the statement added.

As per the notification released by the university, they have also set up a committee to develop online courses. The committee comprises of more than 30 faculty members. These faculty members are from GGSIPU and have been working extensively in the active development of MOOCs [Massive Open Online Courses],” the statement said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had imposed a 21-days nationwide lockdown last week as a precautionary measure to slow down the spread of COVID-19. In the wake of the situation, many universities, colleges, and other academic institutions in the country have postponed their semester exams and admission procedures.
