COVID-19: NITK researchers develop hand sanitizers for free distribution
A team of researchers at the National Institute of Technology (NITK) Surathkal have developed hand sanitizers that will be distributed free of cost.
The National Insitute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal has announced that a team of scientists at the institute has developed hand sanitizers and it will be distributed free of cost.
These personal hand sanitizers have been developed by Dr. Arun Isloor, professor and Head of Department of Chemistry NITK, Surathkal, Ph.D. scholars Syed Ibrahim and Harsha. This has been done as part of the institute's community and social service activities.
"In the first batch, around 390 bottles were distributed by Uma Maheshwar Rao, Director & Professor, NITK and Neeraja Rao, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2. These bottles were distributed to Security Personnel of NITK, Surathkal police station, staffs of State Bank of India branch inside the campus along with dispensary at NITK premises," said Dr. Arun Isloor.
Elaborating about this, he said, in next batch sanitizers will be distributed to media personnel, police commissioner office, petrol bunks along the NH 66.
He also said that these hand sanitizers have been made in adherence to the World Health Organization's standards.
" With the available raw material, the aim is to make 1,000 more hand sanitizers, which can be later distributed to all the health workers in the district working to combat coronavirus " he added.
NIT Surathkal Admission Process
The admission to B Tech programmes in NITK is based on the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). The entrance exam consists of three sections on physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. Based on the marks scored by the candidates in JEE (mains) exam, the University gives admission to the students. Class 12th marks of the students serve as a cut-off.
For postgraduate programme students gets admission based on the score they have obtained in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), which is organized by the IIT. The university admits students in the MCA programme through NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET).
