Do these to score well in JEE Advanced
By: Shaik Dulari Janum
Self-evaluation is important to assess factors like the areas of improvement, time management, the type of preparation required and so on for securing high scores in the competitive exam.
Correct study material
Opting correct study material is the first step of the preparation process. The subject-wise study material for JEE Advanced is as follows:
Physics
- NCERT Textbooks
- Fundamentals of Physics by Halliday, Resnick & Walker
- Concepts of Physics Volume I and II by H.C. Verma
- IIT Physics by D.C. Pandey
- Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov
- Problems in Physics by S.S. Krotov
Chemistry
- NCERT Textbooks
- Physical Chemistry by O.P. Tandon
- Organic Chemistry by O.P. Tandon
- Organic Chemistry by M.S. Chauhan
- Organic Chemistry by Peter Sykes
- Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd
- Concise Inorganic Chemistry by J.D. Lee
- Modern Approach to Chemical Calculations by R. C. Mukherjee
Mathematics
- Maths XI and XII by R.D. Sharma
- Objective Mathematics for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced by R.D. Sharma
- Coordinate Geometry by S.L. Loney
- Higher Algebra by Hall and Knight
- Differential Calculus by A. Das Gupta
- Course in Mathematics for IIT-JEE by Tata McGraw-Hill Publications
Examination structure
The examination structure of JEE Advanced has minor changes every year. The examination pattern of JEE Advanced is as follows:
- Mode of Exam: Online
- Number of Sections: Two papers (Paper one and Paper two); the candidate has to appear for both the papers
- The question paper comprises of three parts: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
- The exam is of 306 marks and each paper carries 183 marks.
- Duration of Exam: Three hours
- Each part further comprises of three sections:
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with one or more than one correct answer
- Numerical Answer Type Questions
- Paragraph Based Questions (Two paragraphs with two MCQs with only one correct answer)
- Matching Type Questions
Scoring Topics
In the last month, it is always important to focus on the highest-scoring topics to score well in the exam. The subject-wise highest scoring topics are as follows:
Physics: Thermodynamics, Electromagnetic Induction, Optics, Modern physics, Fluid Mechanics, Sound Waves, Centre of Mass, Alternating Current, Wave, Motion and String Waves, Heat Transfer, Capacitance, Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Gravitation, Kinematics, Magnetism, Measurement and Errors, Modern Physics, Rotational Dynamics, Vectors and Wave Optics
Chemistry: Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Chemical Kinetics, Electrochemistry, Equilibrium in Physical and Chemical Processes, Haloalkenes and Haloarenes, Hydrocarbons, Compounds Containing Nitrogen, P-Block Elements, Solutions, Hydrogen, Surface Chemistry and Thermodynamics
Mathematics: Applications of Derivatives, Definite Integral, Matrices, Circles, Parabola, Hyperbola, Limits and Continuity, Probability, Complex Numbers, Sequence and Series, Eclipse, and Permutations and Combinations
Revision Approach/Study Plan
Revision is the last and the most important stage of preparation. Revision must be done in an organised manner. Revise all the short notes prepared while covering a topic. Note down and revise all the formulae and scientific constant values before the exam. This would help in solving the problems in less time.
Self-assessment
Self-evaluation is a must to crack any competitive examination as it would help in enhancing time managing skills and identifying the areas of improvement. One can self-evaluate by solving previous year question papers and attempting as many mock tests as possible.
