Being the last chance to attempt for IITs, engineering aspirants have already taken a bold decision to drop a year for JEE preparations. Dropping off a year for preparations is not an easy thing and takes a lot of patience and confidence. Succeeding mostly depends on the consistent attitude and determination towards the goal along with subsequent efforts failure to which can be very much disappointing to say the least. There may be many problems the aspirants may be aware of, but certain challenges may only peep in once you start preparing.  If you utilize this one year to maximum potential, this proves to be the golden opportunity for a lifetime.

1.    Relaxing in the beginning leads to lack of preparation time – Students dropping a year tend to relax during the start and realize only when limited time is left. In order to avoid such circumstances, they should start planning (and strictly follow it) right from day 1. Also include revision time even for those subjects that you are confidence about.

2.    Stay away from demotivation – When the competition is fierce, motivation is low. Usually demotivation creeps in when you see your classmate attending college while you are still struggling. Make sure to stay motivated and do not let that budge you from giving the best attempt. Keep in mind the goal for which you are going through the tough and strive harder to achieve it.

3.    Start from scratch – Even though you scored good sufficient ranking in the previous year JEE(first attempt), concepts should be revised from the beginning. Without the concepts being clear, there is no way you can reach around your previous rank. Start studying from the scratch and prepare harder day by day to beat your own score and crack JEE.

4.    Never deviate from your goal - Always be goal oriented, after you have taken a step to drop a year for preparation do not be down casted. Instead think and write down the mistakes that held you from achieving it the previous time and think of working upon it. Once you get your mind set to this level, there is nothing that you can’t achieve and it is never too late to fix your mistakes.

5.    Do not confuse yourself with various referrals – as different writers have different ways to solve a problem, hence referring to many books can lead to confusion. Stick to one source of study material as various sources may have numerical that may pertain to the exact concept but tricky to understand. FIITJEE provides study material solely prepared by IITians and expert staffs.

Why you are at an advantage?

After getting a real exam experience, droppers are at an added advantage to take up the JEE exams 2018.

1.   Make a thorough analysis and be committed – Before initiating your preparations analyse your previous mistakes or drawbacks as it will be very important and useful in planning your study. Beginning from the toughest subject, time preference of study (day or night), duration and style of learning list all the points and make a thorough analysis. With this commitment you will now be ready to start your preparation.

2.   Be updated with the syllabus, pattern and books – being updated with the right syllabus and changing pattern is the first step to commence preparation. Select the easy to understand books rather than stocking up on tough and high level reference books. Instead go for NCERT books that include all the material to clear the concepts. Also keep a note of the examination date to remind you from time to time of the deadline to achieve your goal.

3.   Plan your study systematically – getting one year to only prepare does not mean that you go for subjects as and when required. A smart study plan is essential in order to cover the entire syllabus. Divide the subjects and topics on day basis to cover according to your convenience. Also include mini breaks in the middle to rejuvenate and relax which will help you enhance your productivity.

4.   Give time to visual learning – make use of the technology available to the fullest, as it is more engaging and effective. Webinars and online seminars provide the best faculty well versed with the subjects. This saves a lot of time by clearing the concepts at a faster pace. Visual learning helps in simplifying the hardest and the most complex of the topics and helps you retain the concept for a longer duration.

5.    Judge your preparedness – go for regular online test series (all India level) to check your preparedness from an authentic source. This will help in knowing your Rank Potential index (RPI) and work on the weaker areas for better outcomes.

Most importantly, keep yourself updated with complete knowledge of the JEE 2018 syllabus, have a sound analysis of the previous year exam and the current changing trend of exam pattern. Never lose confidence as no one is perfect and always believe in yourself to give the best last shot in the examination to crack it.
