Exam results and student personas you will come across
So, are you noticing more and more students near temples, churches and mosques these days? Well, that is just a hint on the fact that exams or results are just round the corner.
It is only at this time that the super-stylish teenage kids who keep bragging about “Yeah dude, I partied till 3 am last night” are often looking glum and wearing the most traditional of clothes possible and chanting bhajans or hymns to please the Gods above. Trying to reason out with the Almighty that – “Please help me get good marks this time, I promise I will stay focused on studies forever and always!”
After all, securing good marks in our country is not so much for making us feel good about ourselves, but more about parents going around saying – “You know what! Pooja scored 99.99%. How much did your son, Raju score? He is always the topper in his school, right?”
So, for some good laughs, Shiksha.com brings for you some different personas and reactions you definitely must have come across during result time.
How can I score this less? Must be wrong calculation of marks.
You must definitely have come across students sounding genuinely agitated on checking their result and stating quite loudly – “I am sure I answered all the questions correctly, how is my score only 96 in Chemistry?” Then you will see these students mentally tallying each question answered and the marks they should have scored for it. Finally, you will see this species rushing to the Principal’s office to find out how to apply for re-checking.
Mom-dad will kill me!
Then there are some others who look perplexed on seeing their result, because they genuinely have performed below expectations. So, when some such student comes and says – My parents are going to kill me for this score – well, he/she is not lying they can surely be scolded at length and even be grounded for letting their parents down.
Arre! I was expecting 50% but managed 95%.
I have never really been able to understand students falling in this bracket. One or two percentage up or below your expectations is understandable but how can there be such a striking contrast. So, if you go by our word, students claiming this are either just too smart for the world or are the selected few who have a never-ending luck line in their hands.
Yay! I cleared Maths
I know this sounds funny but I myself am a kid from this group. Mathematics is one subject which is well-equipped to give me jitters even now. And people, just like me, on seeing a score of 70 against Maths behave as if they have managed to score a 100/100 in a subject where they were sure to see a red line.
Mom-dad the highest score is 80% this year.
Okay, then there are some kids who are PR agents for themselves. These kids will very confidently make stories about how Ramesh and Meeta totally messed up their Economics paper but they are the ones who aced it and managed to score 80 – which is the “highest” in the State. And the buck doesn’t stop there as they will create such an over-the-top image for themselves that despite an average performance in their exams, their parents will look at them with awe and an overwhelming sense of achievement.
How much did my friend score?
Then there are those who have not only mugged-up their marks but also the marks of every student in their class. These students are actually good information sources and will help you immensely if you are not able to reach the notice board of your school/college or if your computer isn’t working at home.
I scored just 98%
Everyone has that one student in their class who at the time of results makes a sulky face (like the one I made when I watched Drona) and looks as if the end of the world is here. You may start feeling sorry for them and are in two-minds whether to even ask them how their result was. However, on asking they will reply with a sigh and a statement – I scored only 98%, how is it possible! My word of caution, stay as far away from such students as they are sure to ruin your happiness!
I was expecting 95.5%, how did I score only 95%.
It is understandable when someone looks glum on scoring 60% when they were expecting 80%. However, there are many kids who will come up to you and say “Yaar 95.5 expect kiye the aur itne kum aaye, only 95%”. My suggestion, go to such a person and make them realise that they truly did not achieve anything ever in life. Lol!
I scored great!
Once in a while you do come across a student who has scored a decent 85% and is joyous over his/her achievement. They know they have been rewarded for the amount of work they put in and you cannot help but feel happy for them.
Thank God, it’s over!
Okay! We all at some point or the other have been in this bracket – the feeling of relief is universal. After all, results end the torturous waiting period that follows the exams – the uncertainty is over! You can leave all your mistakes behind and set things right and make a fresh start in the next academic session.
