GATE 2015: Who should take the exam?

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an all-India level examination that tests the understanding of different undergraduate subjects in various aspects of engineering. GATE is jointly conducted by the seven old IITs and IISc, Bangalore. GATE score reflects the relative performance of the candidate and it is used for admissions in various post-graduate programs like M.Tech, M.E., Phd in Indian higher education Institutes like IITs and IISc. In the recent years the GATE Score is also used for entry level positions in various Public Sector Undertakings.

GATE is basically a bench-marking exam on the technical knowledge of a student and hence has a very high reputation amongst various institutions and even private sector companies as generally a good GATE score guarantees a good technical knowledge. Also, day by day requirement of various industries is increasing in terms of education so no longer only B.Tech is sufficient and so to get placed in leading industries once needs to do post-graduation and GATE is only exam which is an entrance portal for the best post-graduate programs across the country and after the post-graduation from a well-established college you stand above the rest. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects.

All the people who are in their final year of B.Tech or have completed their B.Tech are eligible to appear for GATE exam. GATE exam is now online and hence it is conducted in multiple sessions and the normalized score is accepted as a standard for admissions to various institutions across the country. Also, the GATE curriculum is exactly same as the undergraduate curriculum so not much extra preparation is required and hence is a good option to give it a try at least no matter what your future plans may be.
