IIT-D extension campus @ Sonepat

Indian institute of technology, Delhi is looking forward to an extension campus at Sonepat, Haryana. On Sunday, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced the state government's offer to provide 50 acre land to set up an IIT-Delhi extension campus at the upcoming Rajiv Gandhi Education City (RGEC), sprawling over 2000 acres of land in Sonepat.

 

In his letter to the CM, director of IIT-Delhi, Prof. RK Shevgaonkar stated that such an extension will aid the activities of IIT Delhi and also enhance the economical and technical growth of Haryana.

 

Hooda has already laid the foundation stones for the initial set of 10 other prestigious educational institutions ready to extend their campuses at the RGEC located on the NH 1. To be built over an area of 167.74 acres, these institutes will offer courses including management, information technology, computer sciences, bio-medical engineering, bio-technology, nano-technology, defense research, film and media studies.

 

These institutes to launch their campuses in the first phase of the project include Pune's Bharti Vidyapeeth University, Ashoka University, Asian Education Society Skyline Business School, Foundation for Organisation Research and Education (FORE), Manav Rachna International University, NC College of Engineering and Research, Hindu School of Architecture, RIMT Technical Campus, Shri Balwant Rai Institute of Technology and Research and SRM University.

 

It is expected that the education city would impart quality education to more than 1 lakh students. The campus will reserve 25% of its total seats for students from Haryana. (Read more)
