Q. Congrats on your achievement. So, how do you feel being a JEE Advanced 2015 topper?
A. It’s an incredible feeling and I am really about it. More than me, it’s my parents who are the most happiest.
Q. Did you expect to be one of the toppers of the exam?
A. No. I wasn’t expecting this. I just focused on my preparation and not the result. So, this was like an unexpected surprise for me.
Q. What is your overall score?
A. My overall score is 398 out of 504. And my subject wise break up is:

Q. How long have you been preparing? And what was your study plan like for JEE Advanced 2015?
A. I have been preparing for the last two years, since Std 11th. I am a student of FIITJEE, Delhi. And my coaching really helped me.
I devoted around 9 to 10 hours on non-school and non-coaching days. After school, I used to go to my coaching classes where I spent around 5 hours ( 3 pm to 8 pm) . On days, when there was no coaching, I used to study for 9 to 10 hours.
Q. What was your score and rank in JEE Main 2015? Have you taken any other exam? What was XII Boards marks?
A. My score in JEE Main 2015 was 315 out of 360. Besides JEE, I took SCRA but just for experience. In my 12th Boards, I scored 97.4%.
Q. Which IIT are you aiming at and which stream do you wish to pursue?
A. My first choice is IISC, Bangalore and I would be like to pursue B.Sc in Physics. In case, if this doesn’t work out, I would like to join the general Physics programme at IIT Kanpur or IIT Kharagpur.
Q. Okay. So, most of the JEE toppers join IIT Bombay for CSE. But, you a different goal altogether. What is the reason? Why not CSE at IIT B?
A. I do not want to study engineering. I want a career in research. My family is full of engineers, so I want to stay out of it.
Q. Any tips for aspirants who would be taking the exam next year?
A. See, I will be very frank. Joining a professional institute really helps a lot. They provide you all the study materials. Plus, the exams that they conduct plays an important role in your preparations. It keeps a track of your preparation and also gives you the estimation of your national performance.
Also, help you achieve your targets in a realistic manner and thorough proper time management. These are my personal views. It all depends on person to person. It’s not absolutely necessary. It helped me a lot, so it just might help others too.
Aspirants should also focus on being consistent on their studies. Studying just before the exam wouldn’t not help.
Q. Tell us about your family background?
A. My father works with Bharati Electronics and he too is an IITian. He is from IIT Kharagpur. My mother is a home-tutor and runs her own classes. I have an elder sister. She runs her own company. She is an entrepreneur.
Q. What are your future plans?
A. I haven’t yet decided but I think after completing my UG, I would like to go for my Masters and then PhD.
Q. Last year’s JEE Advanced topper Chitraang Murdia, quit IIT Bombay and is now going to join MIT, USA. Do you also have plans like that?
A. Till my UG, I want to stay in India and if in future I get an opportunity like that I would like to go abroad for my studies. I would consider the option for sure.
