JEE Main 2021: Amid the ongoing pandemic situation, engineering aspirants are still under dilemma regarding the conduct of JEE Main 2021 Joint Entrance Examination and JEE Mains 2021 date. However, according to a survey conducted by Shiksha.com recently, JEE Main is losing its shine. The survey revealed that in 2020, student’s preference for private college examinations such as MET and KIITEE by 20%. The survey showcased that independent review conducted for private colleges is being opted by the Engineering aspirants over JEE Main.

While every year, engineering entrance exams attract a large number of students across the country, the report reveals that the majority of engineering aspirants appear for more than two entrance exams. The survey also revealed that as compared to the year 2019, there has been a surge in Engineering entrance exams, such as KIITEE and MET, among young applicants.
Talking about the popularity of the engineering branch among the students, Vivek Jain, Chief Business Officer of shiksha.com, said, "Engineering as a branch is one of the most sought-after career choices among young Indian students. The diversity of specialization, growing demand for evolved Engineering roles, and availability of quality institutions have made it retain its popularity among students. The fact that students are willing to move across cities to gain the best of education shows that our country is moving towards the right path when it comes to higher education."
The reports also stated that 42% of students prefer metro cities, such as Delhi, Mumbai, and large cities in their home states while choosing engineering college locations. 32% of students from the East and 31% from central India are happy to join a college anywhere in India. Tier 2 cities are most preferred among students over metro cities while opting for colleges. This could be because with metro cities comes a high cost of living.
Among various branches of engineering, Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), and Information Technology (IT) continued to top the list of preferred branches, the report said.
It also revealed that search engines and college websites are most preferred for over 80% of students and parents while researching engineering. While over 64% preferred college listing sites across the country. Meanwhile, engineering aspirants also prefer experienced faculty, location, Skill development infrastructure, infrastructure while studying, the reports said.
