JOSAA 2017 Eligibility Criteria
JoSAA 2017 counselling has begun from June 15 for candidates seeking admissions in country’s premier institutes such as IITs, ISM, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) 2017 official website was made live recently with the required details.
There will be seven rounds of JOSAA 2017 seat allocation and the first one will begin from June 15. Candidates seeking admission through JOSAA counselling must fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned below, released by the official website.

JOSAA 2017 Eligibility Criteria
Before knowing the eligibility criteria for JOSAA 2017, every candidate should first go through the following details:
- To be eligible for JOSAA counselling, it is very important that the candidate had appeared for either JEE Advanced or JEE Main. Admission to country’s premier institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines (ISM) are done on the basis of JEE Advanced 2017. Whereas, admissions to other central or state funded institutes such as National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) are offered on the basis of candidate’s performance in JEE Main 2017.
- Candidate can get a seat to the highest possible choice of academic program, only if he/she is considered under following factors:
- The category (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, etc.) of the candidate
- The position of the candidate in rank list
- The order of preference of academic programs by the candidate
- The availability of seats in different seat categories / seat quotas for which the candidate is eligible for.
Who can participate in Joint Seat Allocation?
Every candidate who satisfies one or more of the following can participate in JOSAA counselling:

Qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2017 for academic programs [excluding the preparatory courses] at IITs and ISM. AND satisfies the “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination” |
Criterion II |
Qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2017 for preparatory courses at IITs and ISM. AND satisfies the “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination” |
Criterion III |
Secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2017 Paper-1 for B.E./B.Tech. Programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs. AND Must have passed Class XII (or equivalent) examination* with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject. Further, the candidates should have passed each of the subjects individually. |
Criterion IV |
Secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2017 Paper-2 for B.Arch./B.Planning programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs. AND has Mathematics as one of the subjects in Class XII (or equivalent) examination* AND should have passed each of the subjects individually. |
The first step to appear for JOSAA counselling involves registration, wherein applicants need to give details such as gender, state code of eligibility, nationality, and contact details and pay seat acceptance fee. Once the registration is done, candidates have to report at their respective reporting centres for document verification.
