M.Tech Entrance Examinations in India
Every year a large number of students appear for Masters of Technology (M. Tech) engineering entrance examination, conducted by various colleges in India to pursue M. Tech in a specific branch of engineering. The students usually pursue this course after completing B. Tech, which is a four year undergraduate program in engineering. One may think why it is important to do M.Tech after B. Tech, which is already a 4 year program. Well, by appearing for M.Tech, students can aim at becoming researched engineers in a particular field or branch.
There are many colleges in India that offer postgraduate degree in M.Tech and for the same a number of entrance examinations are also conducted in the country. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is one of the most popular engineering entrance examination for admissions to M.Tech courses in IITs. There are many other examinations, conducted by different colleges in India that offer M.Tech Programs. Here, we have a list of some of the popular M.Tech Entrance Examinations in India for engineering professionals:
1. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) for M.Tech and PhD programmes: GATE is a national level examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IIS) and IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board. By appearing for this exam, candidates can seek admissions to M. Tech programmes, offered by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). GATE is conducted every year during the month of January.
2. IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc): IIT JAM is a qualifying exam for M.Sc, Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, M.Sc.-M.Tech, and other PG programmes at IITs and IISc. It is conducted by IIT Madras every year in the month of June. To be able to apply to this entrance examination, it is important that a candidate has a Bechelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks taking into account all the subjects.
3. BITS HD (Birla Institute of Technology & Science Higher Degree Exam): BITS HD is national level examination conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) for admissions to various higher degree programmes, offered at Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses. BITS HD is conducted between May and June every year.
4. UPES MEET (UPES M.Tech Engineering Entrance Test): UPES MEET is an online test, conducted by UPES (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies) for M.Tech admissions. Students who have a valid GATE scores can get a direct admissions, but others need to appear for the exam to be able to qualify for admissions. UPES MEET is usually conducted in three phases, which is held in the months of February to June every year.
5. DAIICT (Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology) Entrance Examination: This entrance examination is conducted by Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, for admissions to its M.Tech (ICT) programme. This course is specially designed for professionals who want to fill the gap between computer science and communication systems.
6. AUCET (Andhra University Common Entrance Test): Andhra University Common Entrance Test (AUCET) is conducted by Andhra University for admissions to M. Tech programmes in colleges affiliated to the University. AUCET usually takes place during May every year and its application can be filled on the official website of AUCET. The exam is conducted at various cities in Andhra Pradesh such as Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Guntur, and Amalapuram.
7. KIITEE (KIIT University Entrance Exam): KIITEE is an online entrance examination, conducted by Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, for admissions to M.Tech programmes, offered by the University. KIITEE is usually conducted in the month of April, across 60 test centres, spread across various states in India. The syllabus of this exam is mainly consists of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
8. SRMGEET (SRM Graduate Engineering Entrance Test): SRMGEET is a graduate entrance test, conducted and coordinated by SRM University for M.Tech. The syllabus of SRMGEET has topics covered in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at UG engineering level. The SRM Graduate test is usually conducted in the month of April.
9. TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test): TANCET is conducted by Anna University, for admissions to M.Tech, M.E., M.Arch., M.Plan., M.B.A, and M.C.A., offered at the University. The exam is usually held in the month of June every year. To apply for the exam, a candidate should have passed in a recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the relevant field and obtained atleast 50% (45% in case of reserved category) in the qualifying degree examination.
10. IITH PGEE (IIIT Hyderabad Post-Graduate Entrance Exam): Anybody who has completed B.Tech/B.E. or B.Arch, is eligible to appear for IITH PGEE, conducted by IIIT Hyderabad, for various post graduate programmes. This exam is usually conducted in the month of April and it is mainly consist of two papers- General aptitude paper and Objective paper.
11. VITMEE (VIT Masters Entrance Exam): This entrance examination is conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University, for admissions to master programmes in the University. Through VITMEE, students can seek admissions in VIT University’s Vellore and Chennai campus. This exam is held in the month of June every year and to be eligible to apply for this entrance exam, candidates need to graduate with a full time degree from any recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks.
12. GITAM (Gitam Admission Test): GITAM GAT is an entrance examination, conducted by Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM), for admissions to various graduate as well as post graduate programmes including M.Tech. GAT is usually held in the month of May and June and through it, students can seek admissions to different professional programmes.
13. CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech): Centralized counselling for M.Tech is an online admission process, coordinated by NITK (National Institute of Technology Karnataka), Suranthkal, for admission process in all National Institutes of Technologies (NITs) and other centrally funded institutes. Candidates can take part in the admission process of CCMT, with the help of their GATE score. Also, students who have graduated from a recognized University with 60% marks are eligible to apply for CCMT.
14. PU CET (PG) Punjab University: PU CET (PG) entrance test is conducted by the Panjab University Chandigarh, for admissions to post graduate programmes in engineering. The test is usually held in the month of June and to apply for this entrance exam, candidates need to be graduated from a recognized University with 50% aggregate. The syllabus for PU CET is mainly based on the fundamental of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Material Science covered at UG engineering level.
15. HPCET (Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test): HPCET is a state level entrance examination, conducted by Himachal Pradesh Technical University, for admissions to courses like B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Pharmacy, M.Pharmacy, MCA, and MBA. To be eligible for the exam, candidates need to pass 10+2 or graduate from a recognized University or Board with a minimum of 50% aggregate in all the main subjects.
16. IPU CET (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University): IPU CET is a common entrance test, conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) for various UG and PG programmes including M.Tech. The exam is usually scheduled in both offline and online mode and the same is been held in the month of May every year.
17. Karnataka PGCET (Post Graduate Common Entrance Test): Karnataka PGCET is conducted for admissions to post graduate programmes such as MBA, MCA, M.E., M.Tech, and M.Arch. This is a state level examination, conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority. Candidates with GATE score are exempted from this entrance exam. Karnataka PGCET is been held in the month of August every year. Students who have cleared B.Tech/B.E or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks, are eligible to appear for this exam.
18. WBUT PGET (West Bengal University of Technology Post Graduate Entrance Test): WBUT PGET is a state level examination, conducted and coordinated by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (also known as West Bengal University of Technology). By appearing for WBUT PGET, candidates can seek admissions to M.Tech programmes, offered by the University. Students who have valid GATE scores too can appear for this entrance examination. WBUT PGET is usually conducted in the month of July every year.
