MoRTH signs MoU with IIT-BHU to envision technological innovations

The purpose of the MoU is to bring together new innovation in the area of development, maintenance, highways operation, road safety, and engineering.

 

The Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The purpose of the MoU is to bring together new innovation in the area of development, maintenance, highways operation, road safety, and engineering. The MoU was signed by Director General (Road Development) and Special Secretary IK Pandey and Director of IIT BHU Prof Pramod Kumar Jain.

On the occasion of 31st National Road Safety Week, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed in New Delhi. The National Road Safety Week was observed from January 11 to 17, 2020. During the occasion, many dignitaries including Nitin Gadkari, Union Road Transport Minister, General (Retd) Dr. VK Singh, Minister of State, Road Transport & Highways and Rajnath Singh, Union Defence Minister were present.

IIT-BHU is meant to help in conceptualisation and assessment of novel innovation for the purpose of road safety and operational efficiencies. It is also going to offer technical supervision to MoRTH pertaining to Highway engineering. Parallel to creating awareness among the citizens, it is also meant to act as a mentor to Highway Research Board of IRC for identification and keeping an eye on Research and Development (R&D) activities

Apart from this, the MoU is also likely to nurture industry-academia partnerships to bring advancement and co-operation in the highway sector. This is going to expedite research opportunities in topics related to highways and transport in terms of funding and related aspects.
