Mumbai Univ directs staff to contribute one day salary to CM'S COVID-19 Relief Fund

Mumbai University has requested its teaching and non-teaching staff from all affiliated colleges to donate their one day salary for the Chief Minister's COVID-19 relief fund.

To support the government of Maharashtra in its fight against coronavirus, Mumbai University has today requested all its teaching and non-teaching staff of all affiliated colleges to donate their one day salary for the Chief Minister's COVID-19 relief fund.

The state government had started a COVID-19 relief fund under the chief minister's office. Maharashtra to date has recorded a maximum number of positive coronavirus patients in the country. With 12 fresh cases, the total number of cases in the state alone itself has reached 215.

With the rising number of coronavirus cases in the state, Mumbai University had earlier postponed all Undergraduate and Postgraduate exams and asked its teaching and non-teaching staff to work from home.

In a bid to fight against the novel coronavirus, Chief Minister Uddav Thackeray had started this relief fund, had appealed everyone to donate.

Donations can be sent to the account “Chief Minister’s Relief Fund COVID-19 at the SBI’s branch in Fort. The account number is 392395917. The bank code is 00300 and the IFSC code is SBIN0000300.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his actor wife Anushka Sharma has also pledged to extend their support to the PM-CARES and CM's Relief Fund of Maharashtra to help the country fight with coronavirus threat.  

India's Test team vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has also donated Rs 10 lakh for the CM's Relief Fund.

On March 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that to combat the coronavirus crisis and similar situations in the future, the government is launching a new fund known as the PM CARES (Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund).

Many personalities from sports, film, education fraternity including the industrialists have come forward to donate for the cause. 

University Grants Commission (UGC) has also appealed to all the Vice-Chancellors of the Universities, Directors, Principals of Institutes and Colleges to request both the teaching and non-teaching staff in their educational institutions to come forward and contribute for Prime Minister's National Relief.

Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had also announced that they have decided to contribute Rs 21, 00,000 to the PM CARES FUND.

The total number of positive cases of coronavirus in the country today has surged to 1199. The death toll in the country has climbed to 29.
