Mystory@Aishwarya Dingre: How I selected my course and college
In school, I was introduced to programming languages, Microsoft Office, and HTML, which captivated my interest. I decided to study Information Technology (IT) as my optional subject in my higher secondary education. This subject gave me radical knowledge about computer technologies. I did not want to end up taking a career in which I am not really interested. This field kept me enthusiastic and open to learning new concepts and technologies, which I truly enjoyed.
I did my HSC with Science and Math (PCM) from the reputed Fergusson College, Pune. I chose to study the subjects I liked as I was not keen on taking any other subjects that were out of my interest area. This taught me to do whatever I thought would be good for me, without any regrets, and hence I was always happy studying whatever I chose for myself.

Consequently, this fascination led me to pursue my Bachelors in Computer Engineering at the reputed Sinhagad College of Engineering (SCOE) under Savitribai Phule Pune University. As I am about to graduate, my Bachelors helped me to find my area of interest in the ever-growing field of IT. I have enrolled for MS program as I think it will keep me engaged in a field I am so keenly interested in and will also give me an opportunity to develop and integrate my knowledge with capabilities in business systems management.
How I prepared for college admission
There are many engineering colleges in Pune, but Sinhagad College of Engineering was my choice since the very beginning. Therefore, I prepared accordingly to get admission in this college. Like what most people do, I took coaching classes for the same. I appeared for CET exam and as luck would have it I secured a computer engineering seat in my chosen college and thus began my four-year journey in SCOE, as everyone calls it.
Was I looking out for any other college? Well, not really. I was happy when I got admission SCOE, as it’s one of the most regarded institutions in Pune.
How I made the most of my college years
Apart from the technical acumen that I have gathered in my undergraduate course, I have learnt equally valuable lessons outside the classroom, participating in extra-curricular activities. I participated in Sinhgad Karandak, which is an inter-college cultural event. It is one of the biggest college fests in Pune and also one of the biggest learning platforms in terms of management, communication skills, organizing skills, etc. Being a part of organization and planning committee of this event, gave a boost to my communication skills and also gave me a platform to interact with people from varied backgrounds. This experience has taught me a lot and will always be helpful to me in the future as well.
As one knows, an engineering student has a lot on hands when it comes to lectures, assignments, practicals, etc. So it becomes important as to how one spends time in college. I attend lectures and practicals regularly which is important along with having fun with friends. I have many friends and we spend quite a lot of time together in lectures, practicals, breaks, etc. We spend time at the Sinhagad Coffee House which is frequented by many Sinhagad students. Chocolate Milkshake and Cheese Grilled Club Sandwich being the best ones on the menu, the ambience is equally refreshing for a busy student. College has been really great these four years and I am going to miss it since Sinhagad has taught me many valuable lessons and given me many valuable friends. My college experience has been very interesting and it has taught me that just scoring good marks won’t help you in the long run. If you are not enthusiastic about what you learn and how you can put this knowledge to use, it is hard to succeed and to be content with your work or yourself.
About the Author:
I am currently in my final semester of Computer Engineering at SCOE, Pune. Along with being a data science enthusiast, I am a person who is driven by wanderlust. I’m a good conversationalist and like playing the synthesizer. I truly believe that each person you meet and each experience you encounter, inspires you in a certain way, if you have the right perspective towards it. After completing my Bachelors course, I aspire to do my MS in Management Information Systems which I think, will be the most logical extension to my academic pursuits and career goals.
