Why I chose Engineering: Sachin Singh
After giving the Board exams for high school, each and every one of us is a little bit confused about selecting the stream - Science, Commerce or Arts. Our parents, relatives and elders insist on taking Science and then pursuing Engineering after intermediate education. But, I would like to suggest each and every student to have a deep and needful conversation with their parents and well-wishers before choosing any of the above-mentioned streams, because this is the time to think about your future goals and work accordingly. These small steps will play a major and crucial role in shaping your future the way you want or the way you have thought of.
The same was the situation with me, but finally I decided to go with the Science stream along with Biology. My subjects were English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. The reason for choosing this stream was my keen interest in Science and my curiosity to know more in the same field. With the advancement of technology, I was much more influenced and willing to contribute in the same field. I also had chosen this stream because at that time, there was a lot of craze and crave among students to pursue Engineering and become an Engineer. Everything was going smoothly and I also participated in different extracurricular activities and represented my school in athletics for four consecutive years, bagging several medals at different levels. Then, with all these, I passed my eleventh with just an appreciable percentage of marks. I just secured 68% marks. Then I entered the most important year of my life that was my Class 12. The course was too much to cover before the pre-boards. The hard work and determination required was of another level at that stage and at the same time, you had to handle the parental and peer pressure of performing the best in the boards. The same happened with me as I prepared with my full energy and dedication throughout the year.
Now, it was the month of March and the final revision was to be done for all the subjects. Everyone got nervous and tensed before appearing for the first exam of English. I passed each exam and every one was very happy at the time of the last exam because the previous two-three months were full of tension and pressure. After that, there was a gap of two-three months and a new journey or say a new life was to be started thereafter. I scored 81% marks in intermediate. I wouldn’t say it was enough but I was happy and satisfied.
I just took tuition classes for two-three months when I was in eleventh. I didn’t believe in working hard or I would say I didn’t like tuitions. I prepared my notes for different subjects given by our teachers. If you have prepared your notes wisely and neatly, then that is more than enough for the boards. But if you prefer going for higher studies, then it would be better if you take some extra hand-written notes from a good coaching institute.
How I got admission in my college
Particularly, I appeared only for UPSEE, JEE Mains, AIPMT and KIITEE. I did not join any particular coaching classes for entrance exams. I could not score well in JEE Main. So, I was not eligible for getting admission. I won’t suggest anyone to go and prepare for many universities and entrance tests because it will just distract you. Rather, choose the college or stream which you want to pursue and prepare for that only. Filling many forms is not going to get you admitted anyway, rather, your performance is going to decide the same. I would say plan and act accordingly; you will get the best, and the rest can be left to God. So, after consent from my family, I decided to get admitted in KIIT.
My college life: classes, extra-curricular activities and more
After the entrance results were declared, then came the time for choosing the appropriate branch which would help me in the future. Since it is the most difficult phase, so you need to do it carefully because once you have decided, it will become your future. There are numerous branches in engineering such as Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and many others, which you will get to know at the time of counselling. So, finally, I decided to get admitted in KIIT, which is one of the leading private universities in India. Students across the globe try to get admitted in different courses. KIIT has a natural ambience and you will not feel that you are in a college. They are supportive, caring like parents and sometimes strict when it comes to discipline. I selected Civil Engineering because I loved to shape and construct things.
Also, you have many government options after completing your degree. It was July 2015 when I was ready to go for the engineering lectures and practical sessions. I was excited but a little bit nervous too as at college you would see many new faces and make new friends. I would suggest to go for a better choice because it will help all the way in the future. Engineering life is always happy and full of adventures and you will get to know so many new and interesting things as you proceed. During initial days, you may face some problems such as selecting the right friends and settling in the new environment. But once you cope up with all of these, you will have much to explore and enjoy. I suggest that enjoy your college life to the fullest even when you have to be punctual for your classes as well as during your lecture hours.
I have recently completed my third year of Engineering and will be heading to the last year from the month of July. This year and the next are going to be crucial and deciding years for my future journey. My parents played a major role in helping me decide my career in engineering, and they have always been motivating me throughout. I thank them for getting me admitted in such a wonderful institute, where I have all the comforts.
Currently, I am happy with my decision of choosing Engineering and the rest, I leave it to God.
So, this was my story and I am quite happy to share it with all of you. At last, all the best to each one of you whosoever reads this, and have a bright future.
