What I gained from my college life: Vikas Soni
The step from school to college was a big decision. To get into the best college was a big thing for me to achieve and for every student who just came out of school.
When I was in 12th class, I was not focused on one subject and the whole 12th class ended without me deciding which branch I should take after school. After 12th, I cleared the JEE Mains exam but I didn’t get enough marks to get into an NIT or a government college. Actually, in class 12th, I didn’t know that I had to prepare for JEE Main exam along with Boards, so I was not able to score well in JEE Mains.
So, if you are in 12th and you want to get into an NIT or IIT, you should focus more on the JEE exam preparation. You can go to good coaching institutes like Resonance, Allen and many more.
Now, the only choice for me was to get into a private college. But I was not sure which stream/branch to choose. I was confused. Some told me not to opt for engineering, some told me not to go for a private college. I took a decision to opt for Computer Science but before making this decision, I learned C Language, which is the basic thing in Computer Science, so that I could get an insight of what Computer Science is all about. It was a 1-month course and I was able to catch that language, so I opted for Computer Science.
Then, I filled REAP form for college counselling. Actually, in this form, the students have to select the colleges according to their priority. I put government colleges at top and private colleges were at the last of my preference list. I got selected for Techno India NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur. I decided to get admission into this college. If you want to take admission in Techno India NJR Institute of Technology, then you can either take direct admission by talking to the college authorities or you can fill the counselling form (REAP).
I’ve completed the 1st year of college and now I’m in the 2nd year. As per my experience, placements can only be achieved by extra skills and knowledge, and our college also focuses on that methodology. It empowers the students with extra skills so that they can stand at a good position after 4 years. Our college focusses on learning extra things, apart from the RTU (Rajasthan Technical University)course.
As my college life started, I was not happy with the college hours. In school, we used to stay there for a small time but in college, we have to remain there for hours. But after some time, it became a habit. The faculty members are good and they help the students understand the concepts well. The college allows the students to take part in extra-curricular activities like hackathons, so that we can learn more. Everyone should focus more on getting involved in extra-curricular activities. The infrastructure of the college is good, with all the basic facilities. The college also takes the students to picnic once a year. Apart from these, this college focuses more on studies and attendance, so the chances of getting holidays are less as compared to other colleges. You can enjoy along with studies.
As for placements, they basically depend on the skills of the students. If any student learns something extra, then he will be easily filtered from the crowd.
The infrastructure of the college is good with all the basic facilities, which comprise of good classrooms, which are properly ventilated, good labs, AR VR (Artificial Reality, Virtual Reality) lab, a robot to play with and program. The college canteen is okay. Sports week is also held there once a year. The faculty is good. If you don’t like any teacher, you can ask for them to be changed. The average student to faculty ratio is 40:1. Industry exposure in this college is very good. Moreover, events like Tech Jalsa, a very big annual fest, happens in this college. Tech Jalsa allows all the students from and outside the college to take part in it. This fest consists of all activities related to literature, art and craft, gaming, technical and many more.
After one year, what I’ve learnt is that if we learn extra, then for sure, we will stand at a good position. If you want to take admission in Udaipur, you can opt for this college.
