New IITs vs Old NITs: How to choose the right engineering college?

Deciding the right college and making the selection has always been a hard task for one. As we all know that the count of IITs has been increasing since 2008. It was used to be 7 then it increased to 15 then to 17 and presently it is 23. With the increase in number of new IITs, making a choice between old NITs and new IITs has  become a major concern. While comparing  and choosing between old NITs and new IITs, following factors should be considered.

Selecting a branch is one of the most important factor. This can give rise to a few more possibilities. Branch always plays a major role in your B.Tech. A branch of your interest can take you all the way in the pool of opportunities even though the market is down or your field has less jobs, etc but otherwise you might just be unsatisfied with your work. Depending on your rank you might get a better  branch in an old NITs than new IIT or vice versa.

Apart from branch-selection, there are many other considerations that make NITs and IITs as top premiere institutions. It includes the presence of a good infrastructure, faculty etc. However, most of the new IITs lack these  resources. The new campuses are still under construction. Although this is a drawback, the new IITs are being built with latest infrastructure and technology. Also, choosing a new IIT will fetch you the tag of being an IITian that cannot be obtained at NITs.

While choosing a college, the alumni network should also be given a good amount of consideration. New IITs lack good alumina. So one might not obtain the support provided by alumina at these new IITs as prominently as in old NITs.

Old NITs are well-known for having experienced faculties, good placement records which is extremely important from academic point of view. They have a decent infrastructure although the buildings are old and hostel facilities have dried out.

Hence, for selecting the best college, you will have to weigh the options, reason out your choice wisely based on your interests so that you can reach a concurrent and convincing decision.
