As many as 256 students were awarded medals for having secured first, second, and third rank in their courses at the convocation which was held in a dual mode.

More than 15,000 students, including 176 PhD scholars, received degrees in various disciplines at the 17th annual convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST).

As many as 256 students were awarded medals for having secured first, second, and third rank in their courses. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the chief guest on the occasion. While delivering the convocation address virtually, Pradhan called education a "potent instrument" for the socio-economic development of society. "Since economic growth depends on the efficient use of resources and top-notch technology, with each passing day, it becomes pertinent that our education system is updated and in tune with the changing dynamics of the contemporary world. To meet this challenge, we now have the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020," he said.

“Quality education will lead to massive transformation,” said Pradhan. Urging the students to take up entrepreneurship as it will help create livelihood for people, he said, “Think about the problems that are in your area of study and come up with technological solutions. This will lead to the holistic growth of our society.”

The convocation was held in a dual mode and only rank and PhD holders were given in-person degrees at the Dr TP Ganesan Auditorium of SRMIST at Kattankulathur.

In his convocation address, G Satheesh Reddy, secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said, “The institution has given you knowledge, now you must work hard and make your institution proud.”
