Gaming, video gaming to be precise, has evolved as a religion at IITs in the past few years. We aren’t denying the fact that IITians are geniuses but gaming is one thing they worship and late night gaming is like just another chore for them here. It’s their way of taking out their frustration on a professor they don’t like. The funda here is that although you can’t kill a professor, but at-least, through gaming, you would be able to kill another player who plays by the prof's name ;).

1.  Counter Strike (1.6):

Developed by Valve Corporation, Counter-Strike is a first-person shooter video game that can be played by two or more people. Set in various locations around the globe, players, in this game, join either the terrorist team, the counter-terrorist team, or become spectators.

Players assume the roles of members of combating teams that include counter-terrorists and terrorists. During each round of gameplay, the two teams are tasked with defeating the other by the means of either achieving the map's objectives, or else killing all of the enemy combatants. Each player may customize their arsenal of weapons and accessories at the beginning of every match, with the currency earned after each round.

2.       Defense of the Ancients (DotA):

A multiplayer online battle ground, Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is a mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft.

Here, two teams of players - the Sentinel and the Scourge - are pitted against each other. Players on the Sentinel team are based at the southwest corner of the map, and those on the Scourge team are based at the northeast corner. Each base is defended by towers and waves of units which guard the main paths leading to their base. In the center of each base is the "Ancient", a building that must be destroyed to win the game.

3.       FIFA:

Released annually by Electronic Arts under the EA Sports label, FIFA - also known as FIFA Football or FIFA Soccer - is a series of association football video games or football simulator.

The series was launched in the year 1993 and was the first to have an official license from FIFA. The latest of the series - FIFA 13 - has Lionel Messi as the face of the franchise appearing on the front cover of every game released in the series and in promotional campaigns and advertisements. He replaced Wayne Rooney, who appeared on seven straight covers from FIFA 06 to FIFA 12.

4.       Age of Empires(AEO):

Developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Studios, Age of Empires is a series of personal computer games; the first title of the series being Age of Empires which was released in 1997.

Soon after this release, seven titles and three spin-offs too were released. These titles included real-time strategy games, and their gameplay revolves around two main game modes: Single player and campaign. They competed with another popular strategy series, Civilization, and are set amidst historical events. Age of empires, per say, comprises of the events between the Stone Age and the Classical period, in Europe and Asia.

5.       Grand Theft Auto IV:

An action-adventure video game series, Grand Theft Auto IV is an open world action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. The game released on 29 April 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, and on 2 December 2008 on Microsoft Windows.

Played from a third-person perspective, the game and its world is navigated on-foot or by vehicle. Throughout the single player mode, players control Niko Bellic, a veteran of an unnamed war in Eastern Europe who comes to the United States in search of someone important, but quickly becomes entangled in a world of gangs, crime, and corruption. An online multiplayer mode is included with the game, allowing up to 16 players to engage in both co-operative and competitive gameplay in a recreation of the single-player setting.
