Revision Strategy for JEE Advanced

Revision is an important aspect of JEE Advanced preparation, and it is an absolute necessity if you want to obtain a good JEE rank. Since the syllabus is huge, it is very difficult for the students to remember everything from the syllabus. Revision is as important as understanding concepts of various chapters. Also, during exam, time management is important as you would want to do as many questions as possible during the exam hours. In such a case, revision becomes even more important since if you would have revised a topic lately, you would be able to answer the questions from that topic faster.

Revision strategy for JEE Advanced Physics

Physics is the subject that involves both, heavy concepts and numericals, which makes this subject even more difficult. Many students struggle with Physics. What makes this subject even more difficult is the possible integration of several topics in just one problem.

While studying any topic in Physics, keep on writing the important formulas in a notebook. Remember, don't be very dependent on this formula notebook while solving questions. Infact, while solving physics problems, don't even look up formulas in this formula notebook. With ample practice of solving questions, formulas will automatically be stored in your memory. However, this notebook comes handy when you just want to go through all the formulas in one glance before the exam, or in case if you have a confusion regarding any formula. For example, there are many formulas in Modern Physics. Although you will eventually get used to these formulas as you practice solving Modern Physics questions, but having a glance at all the formulas just before the exam is a good idea.

While you're studying a topic for the first time and solving its questions, mark the questions that you couldn't solve the first time as A,B, or C, with A marked on the question you think is simple but you somehow couldn't do it then, B marked on the question that you think must be more difficult than an A level question, and C marked on the question that you are totally clueless about. While revising, firstly finish of with all A marked questions, then B marked questions, and then C marked questions. Make sure you solve all of them. You can skip the unmarked questions.

Be systematic with your revision, do not pick any topic and revise randomly. Carefully strategize your revision plan and follow it.

Revision strategy for JEE Advanced Chemistry

Chemistry is the subject that requires the most memorization as compared to other subjects that are in the JEE syllabus -- Physics and Mathematics. Hence, you just cannot expect to secure a good score in JEE Advanced Chemistry if you don't do proper revision.

Make a separate notebook for Chemistry in which you write all the reactions and formulae. For chemistry formulas also, the case is same as that for Physics -- you'll learn all the formulas as you practice solving more and more questions, however this notebook will come handy if you want to view all the formulas at a place before the exam.

While writing reactions in the notebook (as mentioned above), it is very helpful if you write the names of several compounds using the same colored pen as that of the color of the compound. Since humans have a picture memory, this color-coding of compounds well help in remembering the actual colors of the compounds. This is essential as many questions in Chemistry, especially that of Qualitative Analysis, involve identifying compounds with their colors.

Chemistry, especially Inorganic Chemistry, requires heavy memorization. If you study some Inorganic Chemistry chapter, say p-block elements, and you don't revise it soon, it is very likely that you won't remember anything from the chapter 10 days later. To avoid such a huge waste of efforts, it is essential to keep on putting small efforts at appropriate times. Once you study a chapter requiring heavy memorization, revise it once 1 day later, then after 4-5 days, and then after 10-15 days. Once you're through this revision drill, you will have a very good command on the topic.

Revision strategy for JEE Advanced Mathematics

Mathematics is the subject that works mostly on logic and practice. There is not much memorization. However, if you are able to remember several formulas (for example, formulas in coordinate geometry), it will save you time during the exam and you will be able to solve more questions. Nonetheless, you can always derive the formulas. But since your competitors would be saving time during the exam by memorizing some common formulas beforehand, it is advisable that you also do so.

Making a formula notebook, as in the case of Physics and Chemistry, is also advisable for Mathematics. Also, revising the questions marked A/B/C, as in Physics and Chemistry, also works in Mathematics.

More Tips

Once your syllabus is over, practice solving JEE Advanced mock tests as much as possible. Try to solve one mock test per day in the last month before JEE. Also, try to solve previous years’ JEE question papers also in the 3 hour time frame as you would solve JEE mock tests. Try to mimic the examination conditions as far as possible.

Divide all the syllabus into three parts and then revise each of the three parts of the syllabus per month, in the last three months before JEE. This will give you full coverage of the syllabus from the revision point of view.

During the last 2-3 months before the exam, study in time frames of 3 hours each. This will make you habitual of sitting for 3 hours straight and doing mentally exhaustive work.

If you're a night owl, try to change your habit and wake up early in the morning. This will help you become more productive during the day instead of night, which is needed since JEE is conducted in the day time.

These are some revision strategies that will help you in performing as per your full potential in the JEE. Put these tips to the best use and excel the JEE. All the best!
