SVU is the perfect place for students to unleash their true potential, says S Abu Bakr Rahman
By: S Abu Bakr Rahman
My parents are professors and since childhood, all my relatives and neighbours had a lot of expectations from me. To be honest, I am not a very bright student. I am just an above-average student who has more interest in extra-curricular activities. I managed to complete the 10th standard with a respectable GPA but the main problem started after 10th.
I have always been a technology enthusiast and that’s the main reason I wanted to pursue engineering. But the real challenge for me was which branch should I choose. From elementary school, I was quite sure that I wanted to pursue my career in science and technology field. So I opted MPC stream in my pre-university studies. After 12th board exams, I made a preference list of five branches to choose for BTech according to my interests and knowledge. The list had Computer Science, Civil, Automobile, Industrial, Aerospace engineering.

After making the list of the branches, I made a list of colleges which were the best for those branches. I wanted to choose a government/public institute, not a private institute. So, I made the list of the best government universities/colleges which matched the criteria I made according to my interests. In my list instead of any premier national institute, I had SVU College of Engineering at the top because from my childhood I have been listening about the greatness of this university from my dad who is an alumnus of this university.
Sri Venkateswara University is the best public university of Andhra Pradesh. It has 89th NIRF ranking in the engineering category and 48th NIRF ranking in the university category. When I got my results I made my mind to join BTech (CSE) at Sri Venkateswara University.
My parents are professors and since childhood, I had to be in the merit list because all my relatives and neighbours had a lot of expectations from me. To be honest, I am not a very bright student. I am just an above-average student who has more interest in extra-curricular activities.
I managed to complete the 10th standard with a respectable GPA but the main problem started after 10th. I joined a private coaching centre named Narayana IIT Academy in Hyderabad. However, I only studied there for 2 months as I was not able to balance the practice for my Rifle Shooting Championships and hectic study schedule staying in a coaching institute’s hostel.
I got transferred to my native place Kurnool’s branch so that I can balance my rifle shooting, NCC and studies staying at home. I completed my XI th standard from Narayana IIT Academy (Kurnool) with a decent GPA but I couldn’t excel in rifle shooting and NCC. So again in my XIIth standard, I changed my institute from Narayana College to Aakash Institute where the coaching timings were very favourable for me.
While studying at Aakash institute, I mostly concentrated on EAMCET and JEE Main because I didn’t want to give any other private university entrance exam except for VIT and SRM universities. I completed my XII th with a CGPA of 9.19. I also attempted JEE, EAMCET, VITEEE and SRMJEEE exams. I scored well in all the exams including JEE Main in which I scored over 98 percentile (which was completely unexpected). I always wanted to join the College of Engineering, Sri Venkateswara University so I applied for its counselling and got the seat.
The University campus is surrounded with trees and is spread over an area of 1000 acres. It has a panoramic and pleasant hill view. It is located beside the Holy Tirumala Hills and is one of the greenest universities of India. As I’m a sports person I wake up early and go for my daily workout. Jogging on the roads with beautiful hill view and trees on both sides feels amazing. Sometimes I also see elephants, deers and rabbits. This is the reason why everyone studying here falls in love with the university.
There are several playgrounds here including SVU Tarakarama Stadium which is quite popular in Andhra Pradesh for national-level sports meets, movie launches and state-level events. Other than stadiums university has several individual grounds and courts for athletics, basketball, volleyball, cricket, football, handball, throwball etc. The university even has a sports centre which has a swimming pool, skating and tennis courts.
Depending on the semester timetable the college starts between 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM and ends between 3:30 - 5:00 PM. The university has well-equipped labs, libraries and resource centres. It has an industry-oriented curriculum which helps students to make themselves ready for the global job market.
Apart from academics, there are several cultural and sports clubs present at the university. I am a part of IGNITE, coding, PSE and sports clubs. Being part of these clubs had a huge impact on my life. I am more comfortable and confident in facing difficult situations now as compared to the past. I feel overwhelmed by the choices which the university provides to the students to develop themselves.
SVU is the right place where students can grow and emerge as future leaders. The students are trained well to face difficult situations and come out of it as winners. I am happy that I am in a place where the students can unleash their true potential.
