SWAYAM to offer 82 Undergraduate, 42 Postgraduate Courses for July 2020 semester: MHRD
Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' had announced that students enrolled in universities and affiliated colleges may undertake SWAYAM courses for which they will be given credits as per University Grant Commission (UGC)'s present regulations on credit framework for online learning courses.
With colleges and universities around the country being shut from mid-March due to coronavirus outbreak, the students can now complete courses offered on SWAYAM platform and avail credits. Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' had announced that students enrolled in universities and affiliated colleges may undertake SWAYAM courses for which they will be given credits as per University Grant Commission (UGC)'s present regulations on credit framework for online learning courses.
He also informed that UGC has shared a list of 82 Undergraduate and 42 Postgraduate non-engineering MOOCs courses with Univerity Vice-Chancellors and College Principals. The courses will be offered through SWAYAM online platform to the students in July 2020 semester.

These courses cover subject areas such as Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, Education, Law, Computer Science and Engineering, Commerce, Management, Pharmacy, Mathematics, History, Hindi, Sanskrit, etc.
These courses, the minister said, will provide an opportunity for students, teachers, life-long learners, senior citizens, and homemakers to widen their horizons of learning.
The courses offered on SWAYAM can be approved and adopted by the Vice-Chancellor of a University on recommendations given by Dean Academics or Head of Department.
SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a program initiated by the Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity, and quality.
The number of students enrolled for SWAYAM courses saw a sudden spike after the country underwent complete lockdown amid coronavirus outbreak. MHRD, in April, revealed that over 26 lakh students were taking about 574 online courses on SWAYAM platform.
