Universities, colleges and other professional courses' institutes in Jammu and Kashmir reopened with  30 percent staff for administrative work, but no classes were conducted as per the order.

Universities, colleges and other professional courses' institutes in Jammu and Kashmir reopened with  30 percent staff for administrative work. This comes a day after the State Higher Education Department directed them to reopen, but not to run any classes until May 30.

As per the official notification by the government, the offices of  Vice-Chancellors, heads of departments, and those of principals of government degree colleges, polytechnic colleges, and ITI shall start functioning with a minimum of 30 percent staff on a rotation basis in the interest of administration.

Pursuant to directions of Lieutenant Governor, G C Murmu, the Higher education department has ordered that classes will not run in all educational institutions until May 30, an official spokesperson said.

Principals of various institutions have been directed to draw the duty roster of teaching staff to start all the pending evaluation and assessment works, virtual classes, lab work, curriculum development, scholarships, and other activities, she added.

Similarly, the duty roster of non-teaching staff on a rotation basis shall also be drawn to start routine official work as assigned by the controlling officer of the institution, the spokesperson added.

She further added that the research scholars have also been granted permission to start their work in the lab while observing the coronavirus protocols.
All staff has also been asked to observe COVID-19 protocol and safety precautions issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Earlier, in mid-March, all the educational institutions around the state were closed due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country. As a preventive measure to contain the spread of coronavirus, all classes were suspended and exams were also postponed in the state.
