The feature of taking an exam in online mode was introduced few years back. Creating much anxiety and worry amongst students, this mode of examination initially did not receive much acceptance in comparison with the traditional way of taking the exam offline (pen and pencil). Reason being the different nature of both the modes.
However, gradually online exams started getting more reception amongst students as well as the authorities conducting exams in India. Currently, not only JEE Mains or JEE Advanced but exams like BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE (UG) too are conducted online.

As the practice of online exams is relatively new, it’s common for students to make mistakes while taking one. To help you face the exam more effectively, Shiksha brings you a few pointers that you should remember while appearing for an online exam.
Take lots of mock tests: Take as many mock tests as you can before the exam. Besides making your preparation better, it will help you get acquainted with the online test system. The more you practice, the easier it would be for you to understand the whole online examination system and take the exam accordingly.
Know the test format: Knowing the test format of your online exam is very important. It’s one of the ways through which you clear hurdles during your preparation and list down the expected exam features like number of sections, how will the test be displayed, time limit of the exam etc.
Read the instructions carefully: Never skip reading the instructions for the exam. According to experts, students, in a hurry, do not read instructions carefully. This generally leads to confusions. In an online exam, aspirants get a chance of scrolling back and forth to change their answers and submit the same.
Check your computer: Before you begin with the exam, ensure that the computer assigned to you is working fine. If you come across any issue, immediately report it to the invigilator or concerned authority available in the room at that moment.
Reach before time: You should reach your test centre before time to avoid last minute rush. Aspirants taking the online exam for the very first time should remember this point. Reaching the test centre before time will help you be prepare yourself for the exam and get a hang of the centre.
Time limit: In the online mode of exam, aspirants have a clock or timer running on their respective computer screens to help them keep a note of the time. Thus, it’s important for students to be alert and keep a tab on the time themselves.
Technical glitches: In case of a technical glitch/s, immediately inform the invigilator or centre superintendent without wasting any time. The time lost due to technical issues will be compensated but you don’t want to take chances, do you?
