After completing my Class 10, it was difficult for me to choose my course, that is, whether to go with Science or Commerce but as I was interested in Management, I preferred to study Commerce and searched for the best college in Gulbarga, where I stay. The best college here was “Kayaka Foundation” and I took admission there. This turned out to be the right place for me to develop my career and skills and I passed with first class from Gulbarga University.

After that, I had to take a big decision as I had to choose my profession. So, I needed to make a sound judgement. I waited and searched for the industry that had good prospects and where the student did not have to sit at home after completion of the degree. I found that Hospitality industry was one such industry because in this field you are provided with an opportunity to not only work at a hotel, but it allows you to work in any other industry as well like NGO’s, temples, hospitals, etc. This is because everywhere food, housekeeping, service and management is required.

My guardians approved of my choice, so I started searching for colleges. I found Garden City University in Bangalore to be the best University to develop my career and skills in this field. I preferred this University because there were good reviews on Google and also because one of my friend was studying here and I believe an insider’s review is always the best. So, it was much easier for me to know about the University.

How I cracked college admission

To join this course, I didn’t take any coaching class or any entrance exam. The only thing that I was asked was if I had passed my 10th and 12th so that I would be eligible for the course.

There were two courses in this University for hotel management – Diploma in Hospitality Management and Bachelor of Hotel Management. I chose the Diploma course as in it I would be certified from AHLEI (American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute) which is very valuable. So, I took Diploma course and got 10% scholarship based of my Std 12th percentage.

My college life: classes, extra-curricular activities and more

I feel that the days spent at my University are the best time of my life. This is because my faculty is friendly and my HOD is inspiring. I don’t get time to waste, time is fully scheduled and I have sweet memories of the time spent at the food court.

My University has changed me a lot, it has motivated me to be curious.

I love to attend all classes because my profession is such that I need to have knowledge of all the subjects. But I find food and beverage production and bakery skills classes to be the most interesting because there we prepare many dishes and items which need both, our physical and mental involvement.

As far as the extra-curricular activities are concerned, I am involved with NSS (National Scheme Service) and I attend workshops related to my profession. We arrange the studio in order to understand marketing concepts and how to plan according to the situation. If I get a chance or opportunity, I would show my leadership qualities and my skills in order to develop my confidence and courage to handle the situation and showing new skills of my profession.

I want to show people that hotel management does not only mean being a waiter or a chef who can only prepare food in kitchen but a hotelier can work in any field of the industry and explore the world. Hospitality and Tourism sector go hand in hand.

I feel that each day of my life at the University is going to give me a chance where I can grow as a professional.

The infrastructure of my University is good. I feel refreshed here and feel happy to work for more hours. I see many successful people at my University and this encourages me to work hard to be successful too.

My University has also provided me with an opportunity to take part in ODC (outdoor catering) where I can experience the actual working of a hotel. The ODC would be organised by hotels, so I feel excited about my profession and I feel that my university is the best.
