BSc (H) Food Technology Food technology can be defined as the application of food science to the selection, preservation, processing, pack- aging, distribution, and use of safe, nutri- tious, and wholesome food.

The Food Technology course attracts a large number of students because of its novelty as an educational course and also because of the growing demand for food technologists in today's world of pack- aged and fast foods.

The general criteria for admission in the undergraduate Food Technology course is 12 years of schooling with Class XII in Science stream, having Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology/Biotechnology, along with English as compulsory language.

In the present scenario, Food Technology presents career prospects like management, research, education and specialised laboratory work. This degree opens future vistas for higher studies (Master's and Doctoral pro- grammes) and academic staff positions at leading universities and research institutes in India and across the globe.


The students are competent to work in different fields related to food indus- try on completion of this course.

After a course in Food Technology, there are several job prospects in food processing industries, research labo-ratories, hotels, soft drink factories, quality assurance divisions, rice mills, dairy industries, distilleries, packaging units, and other catering establishments. They can work as R&D professionals, food analysts, production managers, quality assurance managers, food microbiologists, food regulatory offi- cers and food inspectors, to name a few.
