To be with, Tea-Tasting is no hunky-dory profession but a specific field of tea management industry. Being a highly specialized area, it involves huge responsibilities. A Tea-taster is a person who swiftly is able to differentiate between various intricate Tea flavours. It is a Tea-taster's responsibility to grade various varieties of Tea as per their quality. A tea-taster is often employed by big tea companies for ensuring quality standards and for identifying different tea samples. Thus, those who love nature and have active taste buds can easily become tea tasters.Smoking and consuming alcohol are the two practices a Tea-taster must abstain from.

Students willing to make a career as a tea-taster must keep in mind that one can only specialize in this profession via trial and error method and regular practice. To develop expertise in this field, Tea taster's need to work on their managerial as well as marketing skills. Tea tasters need to regularly keep a check on their intake of spicy food. If a tea taster doesn't follow a disciplined diet then during peak season when he/she has to taste around 200-300 cups of tea a day, he/she may face digestion issues or common problems like stains on their teeth.

Proficient Tea-tasters can look at the colour and size of the leave and determine whether it's fit enough for consumption or not. They are hired by buyers and manufacturing companies for detecting defects in the production process.

Since tea-tasting is a scientific experience, students from science stream can pursue this field. A complete blend of smell and taste is needed for carving a niche in this stream. This profession requires a strong knowledge of farming in tea leaves. Moreover, it a high paying job with unconventional streak.

Eligibility

Youngsters who have completed their graduation in any of the following streams can undertake career as a tea-taster:

  • Agriculture
  • Horticulture
  • Biology
  • Home science or
  • Food technology

Being a fat paying job, an efficient tea-taster can earn a pay as good as any software engineer.
