NCHMCT JEE 2017 Counselling Process
NCHMCT JEE was conducted by National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) on April 29, 2017. Sources share that more than 35,000 students appeared for NCHMCT JEE 2017. Results for NCHMCT exam have been declared.
On the basis of an aspirant’s rank/score in the exam, he/she can secure admission in “21 Central Institutes of Hotel Management, 19 State Government Institutes of Hotel Management, 01 Public Sector Undertaking and 13 Private Institutes of Hotel Management affiliated with NCHMCT”, informs the official website.

Candidates are informed that admission in BSc Hospitality and Hotel Administration course is done strictly on the basis of a candidate’s All India Rank (AIR) in NCHMCT JEE. No separate group discussion or interview round is conducted for admissions. Basis a candidates rank and minimum qualifying marks NCHMCT JEE cut-offs are prepared.
What next after NCHMCT JEE exam?
After appearing for NCHMCT All India Entrance Test, candidates need to first wait for results to be declared. Once NCHMCT JEE 2017 results are announced, candidates will be allotted a rank and basis this rank they will be called for NCHMCT JEE 2017 counselling.
NCHMCT JEE Counselling has three rounds. The first two rounds of counselling are web based whereas the third round is called Spot Round wherein aspirants need to appear physically at the counselling centre allotted to them.

Steps to Follow in NCHMCT JEE 2017 Counselling Process
In the counselling round for NCHMCT JEE, candidates need to select their college preference after going through information provided by the respective college on their official websites. However, aspirants need to note that the college for admission will be allotted to them on the basis of their AIR, that is, merit and the college selected by them at the time of counselling.
There are three rounds of counselling for admissions on the basis of NCHMCT JEE ranks. These are:
- First Round of Counselling
- Second Round of Counselling
- Spot Round
The first two rounds of NCHMCT JEE 2017 counselling process are web based/online and in the Spot round or third round of counselling, students need to physically appear at the admission centre to complete the counselling process.
The tasks performed at the time of NCHMCT JEE counselling include:
- Checking the eligibility of candidates
- Verification of documents
- Depositing of counselling and first semester fee
- Selecting colleges as per preference
Note: Elaborating on how to select college preference at the time of counselling, the official information brochure states: “Candidates should give as many choices after careful evaluation of Institutes based on information available in their respective websites”.
After aspirants have selected their college preference, they have to fill the names of colleges as per their preference and also keep in mind the colleges that are available to them for admission on the basis of their rank in NCHMCT JEE 2017 and lock the same. This college preference list/choice list will be valid for two rounds of counselling.
Also, after students are allotted admission (or a seat) in a specific college on the basis of online counselling then they have to appear (physically) at a designated admission centre in order to complete the admission process. The tasks to be completed at the admission centre include:
- Verification of documents
- Submission of initial fee
- Upgradation of choices
- Collection of provisional admission/seat allotment letters

Also, no hard copy of the allotment letter would be sent to any aspirant. All aspirants need to take a print of the online allotment letter itself.
While taking part in the first two rounds of NCHMCT JEE counselling, aspirants are provided with two options which are - Float and Freeze. If an aspirant selects the "float" option then this means that he/she is applying for upgradation. On the other hand, "freeze" option implies no upgradation. Informing about the same the official website of NCHMCT JEE counselling informs: "Those candidates who have opted option as “Float”, are also required to sign a declaration that in the event of allotment of a new seat in the 2nd round, their earlier allotted seat would be automatically cancelled and the cancelled seat would be offered to the candidate next in the merit who might have sought that seat through his/her earlier submitted choices". Elaborating further, "In case the candidates have exercised option “Freeze” (for no-upgradation), then he/she would not be considered for seat allotment in the 2 nd round of Counselling. However, such candidates will be considered for category upgradation against the same allotted seat".
NCHMCT JEE 2017: Admit card at time of counselling
The admit card issued to aspirants at the time of the entrance exam needs to be preserved by them as the same needs to be produced at the time of counselling. If any aspirant does not have his/her duly attested admit card, he/she will not be allowed to take part in the counselling process.
NCHMCT JEE 2017 Counselling Process: Fee to be paid
When appearing for the counselling round, candidates need to pay seat acceptance fee amounting to Rs 57,500. Here, Rs 1,000 is the counselling fee and the rest (Rs 56,500) is the academic fee for the first semester of the hotel management course.

What is NCHMCT JEE 2017 Mock Counselling?
As part of the admission process a very helpful initiative undertaken by authorities is NCHMCT JEE is mock counselling.
Mock counselling is conducted to help familiarise candidates with the entire online counselling process. In mock counselling, aspirants can see the probability and means through which they will be allotted seats for admissions on the basis of their rank in NCHMCT JEE 2017 in the college of their choice.
Who can take part in NCHMCT JEE 2017 Second Round of Counselling?
The below mentioned aspirants can take back in 2nd round of counselling conducted by NCHMCT for Hotel Management course admissions:
- Group–I (Fresh candidates): Any aspirant who has not been allotted any seat in the first counselling round.
- Group–II (Cancelled candidates): Any aspirant whose NCHMCT JEE seat got cancelled in the first round of counselling because of non-fulfillment of allotment criteria.
- Group–III (Reported and Freeze candidates): "Those candidates would not be allowed to submit fresh choices or modify choices. Their earlier allotted seat would be retained; however their allotted category may be upgraded as per business rules", informs the official website.
- Group–IV (Reported and Float candidates): Aspirants who selected the "float" option in the earlier counselling round are allowed to take part in this counselling round so that they can
"modify/add new choices or their existing choices would be considered for upgradation. If they want to modify their choices they can do so but their previously allotted seat (allotted Institute) will remain as a valid choice in this round. System will not permit the candidates to delete this choice; however they can rearrange this choice (Move-UP or Move-Down) as per their order of preference", ", informs NCHM.
What is Spot Round of NCHMCT JEE 2017 Counselling?
The third and final round of the counselling process for NCHMCT JEE 2017 is the Spot Counselling round.
Aspirants need to register online for Spot round of NCHMCT JEE 2017 counselling. Students meet the eligibility criteria to register for this round of counselling if they fulfill any of the below mention criterion:
- Did not register for round 1 and round 2 of NCHMCT JEE 2017 Main Counselling including absentees of main Counselling.
- Registered for Round 1 of Counselling and also secured admissions in first or second round of counselling but did not report at the admission centre to complete all the admission formalities.
- Withdrew before the Spot counselling round.
- Secured admissions provisionally.
NCHMCT JEE 2017 Counselling: Direct admissions to 10+2 rank holders
There is another option available to students to secure admission in any of the Institutes of hotel Management (IHMs) and here they do not even need to take part in the NCHMCT JEE counselling process.
In each IHM, three seats are reserved for rank holders of 10+2 exams. Further, it has been shared that among these, one seat (each) is reserved for Arts, Commerce and Science stream toppers of 10+2 exams.
However, the condition to avail direct admissions in IHMs is that the student should be among the top "200 rank holders from respective streams from recognized Boards of school examination wherein up to 2 lacs candidates appear or 1st to 500 rank holders from Board of Examination where 2 lacs to 5 lacs candidates take examination. The inter-se-merit from recognized School Boards of examination shall be at par”, informs the official website.
Withdrawal of seat and fee refund
Aspirants can withdraw admissions even after they have been allotted seats for admissions in round 1 and round 2 of NCHMCT JEE 2017 counselling. The fee refund policy is as follows:

Aspirants can seek refund for the first semester fee paid by them. However, counselling fee paid by them (that is, Rs 1000) will not be refunded.
The fee refund will be made by means of a Demand Draft (DD) that is drawn in favour of the candidate’s name within 45 days of the commencement of the academic session. This DD will be sent by Speed Post to the registered address of the candidate (that is, the address mentioned in the NCHMCT JEE application form).
