7 Jobs That Pay You to Travel Across the World
Choosing a job that pays you to travel across the world is a way to take control of your own life, without compromising on your lifestyle. The freedom to travel while working is very important to some of us, who are free birds at heart. Here are some of the options for those who are looking for jobs that allow you to travel and earn at the same time:
1. Tour or Travel Guide: An obvious choice for those who love to travel and explore is to become a tour guide. It's lot of fun! However, it does require exceptional people skills. Apart from expertise in creating ideal travel itineraries for your client groups, you should also be adept in organizational skills. You can work independently or with travel agencies.
To succeed in your career, you should master the history and geography of your chosen destinations. You should also research about the folklores, folk arts and crafts, popular restaurants, bars and pubs, as well as other entertainment venues available there. Mastering languages is an art that can earn you international clientele easily, which means that you can travel more and earn more.
You can also be an Adventure Guide. It allows you to do rock climbing, scuba diving, rafting and what not. But again, it requires a specific type of personality and some necessary skills to pursue the job.
2. Hospitality Jobs: If you love to travel but are not cut out for being a guide, you can try for other jobs in the hospitality industry such as jobs of a chef, waitress, receptionist, or even a spa therapist. Hospitality and recreation industry is quite big and you can find jobs at all levels, irrespective of what skills you have. The work setting is generally great and if you do perform well, you not only get tips but also quick promotions. As you move towards more luxurious and high-end establishments, you can expect better wages and benefits.
3. Cruise Ships/Aviation Jobs: Cruise ships, again, offer jobs for all types of people and can make use of whatever expertise or skill that you have. However, you are bound to the ship. So, wherever the ship goes, you have to go too. Aviation industry offers similar opportunities but you are again bound to a plane here.
4. Medicine or Health Care Jobs: Whether you are a doctor or a nurse, you are always in demand. You can work on contract in any city, region, or country you like. There is little supply and huge demand for travel nurses. Besides, allied health care services are in demand too. Medical and health care professionals earn pretty good income, no matter where they are placed.
5. Travel Writer and Photographer: The demand for travel writers and photographers is increasing with more and more travel blogs coming up. Besides, there are always travel magazines and channels that need content to fill up spaces or slots. The only negative side of the job is that the pay in this kind of job is very inconsistent. If the editor likes your article or photographs or videos, you are paid for it. Otherwise, it is rejected and you do not get anything for it. But if you are confident of your skills and can take occasional setbacks in your stride, you do not need to worry much.
6. Online Jobs/Telecommuting Jobs: If you have a laptop and an internet connection, you can always find online jobs or telecommuting jobs that can use your expertise and skills. You can work on net or on phone, no matter where you are. However, you may have to work within a range of your employer to be able to do your job. The good thing about this kind of job is that you can command a regular and passive income, just as if you were in a real desk job. Such jobs are mostly task-oriented jobs where you are paid if you accomplish the assignment in a given time period. So, you actually have to work in an online job, even though you are not in office.
7. Teaching English: One of the most ignored travelling jobs is to teach English. You can find such a job in almost all countries. If you are reading this article, you probably already know English. So, this is the time to brush up your language skills and pack your bags. However, teaching assignments do require you to stay at one place until your batch or session is over. So, if you plan to explore a place in depth and are game to stay there for six months or more, you can easily make money by teaching English to some students.
