Want to make it big in the Hospitality industry? To guide your efforts in the right direction, The Oberoi group has opened applications for its ‘STEP’ program (Systematic Training and Educational Programme).

‘STEP’ (Systematic Training and Educational Programme) gives you on-the-job-training at Oberoi Group while you pursue a Bachelor of Tourism Studies (BTS) degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Launched in the year 2004, STEP is a three year programme giving students the competitive edge to acquire specialised training and knowledge either in Kitchen Operations or Hotel Operations while they pursue a degree from IGNOU.

On successful completion of the programme, STEP trainees can look forward to getting absorbed as full-time employees of The Oberoi Group, in luxury Oberoi Hotels & Resorts or in its chain of five star Trident Hotels, as operational assistants, depending on availability of a suitable vacancy.

What’s more is that, as graduates, the trainees are also eligible to compete for admission to the Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development (OCLD) for a two-year postgraduate level programme to secure a first Executive posting with The Oberoi Group. Familiarity with the Group puts STEP graduates in a stronger position for entry to OCLD.

While the programme moulds trainees for a head start in deluxe and first class hotels across the globe, the students would further benefit from the expertise of the academic staff at OCLD, which includes educationists and hospitality professionals.

STEP program admissions

Admissions are open until April 7, 2013. The programme begins in June 2013.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates need to have passed class XII by July 2013
  • Aged between 17 and 20 years on 1 July 2013
  • Strong academic performance in class X and XII (minimum 50% aggregate and 55% in English in class X).

The STEP Programme currently provides on-the-job training at hotels and resorts of The Oberoi properties at Bangalore, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Shimla; and Trident properties at Agra, Chennai, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Udaipur.
