100 MP colleges may lose UGC grants & recognition
As many as 100 colleges in Madhya Pradesh may face University Grants Commission (UGC) action for failure to apply for National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation. The colleges risk losing their annual grant and can even be de-recognised by UGC from next session.
Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department had asked colleges to send online requests for NAAC accreditation by July 19. Out of 353 state government colleges, 80 colleges have NAAC accreditations while 50 more colleges have applied so far.
NAAC rates universities on various parameters such as infrastructure, teacher taught ratio (TTR), and students’ amenities among others. The ranking is given for a period of five years, which is also used for releasing annual grants by UGC.
