Examination Pattern

The Civil Services Examination is administered in two stages

Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination

Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various services and posts.

The Preliminary Examination

The preliminary test is a screening test for the Main Exam. Candidates who are selected in the Preliminary exams will not have their mark counted in the Main Examination for determining their final order of Merit. The number of candidates shortlisted for the main examination would be approximately 12-13 times the number of open vacancies in various services and posts that year

It carries a mximum of 450 marks and consists of two papers comprising Objective Type (multiple-choice) questions. The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.The course content of the syllabi for the optional subjects will be of the degree level.

Upsc has made one more change in mains exam.this year student have to write answer in space provided by upsc ie answer and question will be in same booklet.student has to be very precise in answer writing.candidate should write answer only when they are sure about it.

I have heard that there will b only one subject to opt. but you are telling about choosing two subjects.
