Arts is the most underrated and underestimated stream in India. Due to lack of knowledge and scope of this stream, many students make wrong choices in their lives while pursuing their formal education. There is a great myth and misconception about Arts such as, ''only girls take Arts'', ''people who don’t get admission in other streams such as Science and Commerce can choose Arts'' etc. We often hear all these comments in our country, but fail to realise that Arts is the mother of all subjects. It gave rise to ideas, thoughts and philosophy to understand the world and influence subjects like Logic, Math, Languages, Natural Sciences, Human Sciences, etc. Arts is all about creativity and has its own position in life. Arts make us complete with all the knowledge we possess. Every subject has its own value and significance, therefore, it is not right to judge Arts by what people say.
There are wonderful career opportunities for Arts undergraduates as well as graduates in India and abroad. In fact, places like UK and other European and Middle Eastern nations have a huge demand for Arts professionals. If you notice, most of the non-government institutions such as UNO, UNESCO, UNICEF and other renowned organisations are headed by Arts graduates from esteemed universities with the background of History, Law, Sociology, Political Science etc.
Remember, do not choose any subject just for money. Make a wise choice once you are aware of your aptitude. You need to love your career and for that you need to love your subject to get into the depth of it. Make a decision by knowing yourself first otherwise you will fall in the pit of regret.
I have come across many students who hate studying Arts, having a misconception that studying this subject has no use in their life. Normally, this happens because since childhood they are brainwashed by their parents not to take Arts as there is no scope of it (in India). But they fail to realise that this creates a great divide between students in the healthy atmosphere of universities. This is turn restricts them to opt for preparing for civil services and serve the nation. They get attracted towards what others are doing and which field has more pay package.
