Career in Indian Army
Nowadays, many new professional fields come in the picture and are a big hit among the youngsters. But still the charm for armed force is not yet over. Youngsters still want to go for armed force and other paramilitary services. Indian Army, one of the largest and the finest in the world. Working with Armed Forces is not just a career but it's a challenge to serve the nation. It gives the opportunity to the individual to be trained in the high technology arena and noble approach to be disciplined, civilized and sophisticated. The Indian army hires, trains and absorb the national citizens for various post in both the officers and other junior ranks.
The Aim of Training
The Indian Military Academy (IMA) transforms young men into courageous, dynamic and well-educated young officers of integrity, who bears the brunt of battle or hardship for the prided of the nation. They take part into piece making mission for the country and for abroad on behalf of the United Nations. The aim of the training is to develop moral values, leadership qualities, mental and physical competency and a will to win the battle for the harmony and pride of the nation. To achieve such objectives one needs training in character building, physical exercise, sports and adventure activities. Some important qualities like honor, respect for duty, integrity and self esteem need to be imbibed in every cadet. The curriculum and syllabi is designed in a way that it gives pace with the technology and development and at the same time trained them with the basic principal/tenets of the military profession.
Intake/Entry
The Indian Military Academy presently has four main entry streams: the National Defence Academy cadets from Pune, the Army Cadet College cadets (for servicemen only), the Graduate Direct Entry Scheme from the technical institutions/colleges. The duration of training is one year except for the Direct Entry Scheme, for which it is one and a half years.
For officers in the armed forces, the Army recruits on Permanent Commission (absorption till retirement) and Short Service Commission (for a tenure of 5 years) basis. Candidates have to qualify the tests for National Defence Academy (NDA) or the Indian Military Academy (IMA) to join Army as permanent commission for long term.
Service Training
The sole aim of the training is to prepare a cadet for command of a platoon in the days of war and peace. Subjects taught include Tactics and Map Reading, Organization and Administration, Integrated General Leadership Training (IGLT), Weapon Training, Physical Training and Drill.
