Cultivate your Passion
Besides the daily routine of work and family, each of us likes to do some activities because of the immense pleasure and sense of satisfaction that they give. In most cases, these activities become a significant source of recreation and many of us forget the impact that they have upon the development of our overall personality. This in itself tends to be rather profound which in part explains the reason we emphasise that children should engage in as many play and recreational activities as possible. Some of the things one needs to keep in mind while zeroing in on a pleasurable activity include the following:
Know yourself
Knowing yourself is an essential first step in any case. It is only by developing a good understanding of one's self that one can go on to determine what would best suit one's interests, abilities, temperament and personality. If one does not know oneself too well, then frequently there can be a significant mismatch between what one gets or decides on and what truly gives one any amount of pleasure and satisfaction.
Get out of the box
Often, it's not just about knowing what would best suit you. It is also about the ability to be on one's own and to do the things that one truly wants to, that give a lot of pleasure, satisfaction and an overall sense of well-being. Being able to stand alone is not just a part of doing what is good for one but also is a way of building one's self-confidence and self-reliance.
Value time, divide it well
Life is not all about work. It also involves striking the fine balance among recreational activities, family responsibilities, academic work, and socialising. Striking this balance can at times be difficult but a lot would depend upon how well one is able to manage one's time. This needs to be based upon a realistic estimate of the amount of time each activity demands and to then divide and distribute it well so as to accommodate as many activities as one wants to participate in.
Know more about you
You should try and gain as much knowledge, information and understanding as you can about your interests. Read, talk to people, and then figure out the intricate nature of your interests. Armed with a good knowledge of your interests, you can always be assured about having made the right decision. It's only when you know exactly what your interest entails that you can be sure about your expectations from it and can truly enjoy its benefits.
Do it for pleasure
Forget about the benefits of what you do, which, though important in making a decision, is not as important as how happy you feel while doing it. Don't think about comparisons with others. This is about you and your happiness and satisfaction, not about what others may find to be good for them.
Share it with peers
Share your interests with your friends and peer group. If you and your peers have a common hobby, then you can start involving your friends in your activities and thus double the fun while working with them and sharing your learning with each other.
