It is a known fact that one of the most fascinating and interesting aspects of college life are fests and the going gets even more exciting when the fests we are talking about are conducted by Delhi University (DU) colleges.
Fests at DU are known to have wide variety of events, interesting themes, spectacular performers and above all that – soaring budgets.
Apart from celebrity gigs and inter-college competitions college fests at DU are also known to be the hot-spot with the best DJ nights. Most of the fests conducted at colleges are of three-day duration and trust us when we say that for these days the spirit of fun and frolic is clearly reflected all across the varsity.
Students shared that the fests at DU are getting bigger and better with each passing year. They even candidly shared that a college’s fest is considered bigger mostly on the basis of which star performer they have managed to get on board that year.
Having listed the best engineering college fests, we are now bringing for you the top five fests conducted by Delhi University Colleges.
Mecca
Conducting Institute: Hindu College
Considered to be one of the most popular DU college fests, Mecca is mostly conducted in the month of February each year. In 2014, the theme for Mecca was – Brilliant Bharat. Famous singer, Papon performed at the fest with his band East India Company. Students also grooved to the tunes of DJ Nucleya and Dualist Inquiry from MTV. However, the star attraction of Mecca 2014 was the performance of Mohit Chauhan.
Popular events that take place at Mecca are Western Dance Competition, Hindi Debate, Panache (the fashion show), Flash Cricket, Amazing Race, Nukkad Natak and Experimental Design.
Crossroads
Conducting Institute: Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC)
Listed as an extremely engaging and popular fests conducted on campus, Crossroads is known to witness huge participation. Crossroads has managed to stay on top of the ladder in terms of the star attractions the authorities manage to get on board. Apart from this, SRCC’s fest is known to gather massive budgets and welcomes sponsorship from the likes of big corporate houses such as Pepsi, Samsung, DLF and Adidas.
Conducted in the first week of March, Crossroads in 2014 used the tagline – Last Party Before Fourty. It was further stated that in 2014 for Crossroads it was “Time to go International”.
Celebs who entertained audiences at the fest include playback singer Shaan and Sukhwinder Singh, a Slovenian folk rock musician Vlado Kreslin, Delhi-based band Mrigya’s violinist Sharat Chandra Srivastava, American vocalist and songwriter Jennifer Rene, Nikhil Chinapa with Dualist Inquiry.
Some popular events conducted at SRCC’s fest include Street Soccer, Street Dance, Escapades and Gully Cricket. Other highlights of Crossroads are the pro-nites known as Encore, Inferno, Random Collisions and Woodstock.
Tempest
Conducting Institute: Miranda House
The ticket sales at Tempest are very high, owing to the good crowd, interesting events and entertaining performances. In 2014, the theme of Miranda House’s fest was – Shades of Green which as per the organising committee reflects the color of nature, youth, renewal and energy.
In previous years, Tempest has been graced by performances from Jester, Five8, Faridkot and Groove Adda. However, the star performer in Tempest 2014 was Arijit singh.
Some popular and interesting events of the fest are street theatre, battle of bands, western dance and the likes.
Montage
Conducting Institute: Jesus and Mary College (JMC)
Conducted in the month of February, Montage is popular for the quality of its events and the most talked about = among them is Mudra, the choreography competition which is the talk of the town at DU. Other popular events conducted at Montage are AWAZ - The Street Play, Battle of the Bands, Kite show among others.
The star attractions at Montage 2014 were Nasha - the Sufi Rock Band and DJ night with DJ Shival.
Nexus
Conducting Institute: Sri Venkateswara College
Conducted in the month of February, Nexus is popular for the performers it manages to get onboard along with witnessing impressive participation from students. The events which see maximum participation are Face Painting, Hindustani Music, Western Music, Karaoke and the extremely interesting and entertaining event called Chocolate Eating. Also, the fest’s dance and choreography events are extremely popular among the masses.
The star performers at Nexus 2014 included Jazzy B, rock performance by Junkyard Groove and Sufi Night with Sabari Brothers.
