College life is known to be full of colour and happiness. Yes, students need to put in a lot of hardwork to make a respectable future for themselves but one must also understand that this is the first stage in a student’s life when they actually experience freedom.

Leaving behind their school uniforms students are often seen sporting the latest fashion trends, after all, if you do not do all this in your youth then when do you do it.

Other aspects of college life which everyone experiences are speaking in their own lingo and hanging out with friends at the most happening yet affordable food stalls or restaurants around the campus.

In this article, Shiksha is trying to decode the famous eating outlets where Delhi University (DU) students often head out to quench their thirst and fill-up their stomachs. Phonebooth Café

Located at Hudson Lane, DU students swear by the Mexican wave pizza and Peri Peri chicken served here. The ambience of the café is great and it is known for the trademark red phonebooth which is actually the entry gate of the café. The average cost of eating here for two people is around Rs 800.

Central Perk

Are you a F.R.I.E.N.D.S. fan? Then the name Central Perk may make you go weak in the knees. Located at GTB Nagar, although the cafe is not an exact replica of the coffee shop of the 90’s hit show but it manages to have the iconic orange couch as well as walls full of art work of the show. The menu includes shakes after characters of the show like Gunter’s Love, Phoebe Crusher, Central Perk Fantasy and the iconic theme song “I will be there for you”. The average cost of eating for two people here is Rs 500 approximately.

Tom uncle Maggie Point

Established in 1978 and located near Ramjas College of DU, Tom Uncle Maggie point is known to offer more than 30 variants of Maggi at its stall. Apart from Maggi one can tickle their taste buds by eating pastas, sev puri as well as bhel puri. And to beat the heat students are often seen sipping sodas here. This popular eating outlet at DU is open from 11 am to 8 pm and the average cost of eating here for two people would come to be around 100 rupees.

The Big Yellow Door

The next eating outlet on our list is the Big Yellow Door which opened its gates in February 2013. Known to cost around 500 Rs for a meal for two, this popular eating outlet for DU students is located at Hudson’s lane and is famous for its pastas and shakes (especially Kit-Kat shake). Other food items on the menu which students are often seen munching here are the cheese bomb burger, butter chicken pizza and the big yellow door special pizzeria on baguette. This eating joint opens at 8 in the morning and closes around 11 pm.

Momo’s point

Next up is Momo’s Point which is located at Kamla Nagar. Famous for its Veg steamed momo’s, fried crispy baby corn, pork fried momo’s and egg chowmien. Momo’s point is open from 11 am to 10 pm and a decent meal for two costs around 400 rupees here.

QDs

Located at Hudson Lane, QDs is a vibrant hotspot for DU students when they want to cater to their empty stomachs. Open from 11:30 am to 10:45 pm the best food items as per students to order here are tandoori momo’s, tandoori chicken momos, Chinese chicken chopsuey, crispy chilly potatoes and the chicken Manchurian. Students reveal that two people can easily eat tasty food for approximately 500 Rs at QDs.

Chache di hatti

This very old and famous eating outlet is located at Kamla Nagar. Students reveal that at any given day there is at least a waiting of 20-25 minutes to gorge into those delicious chole bhature. The speciality of this place is bhaturas with potato and paneer filling which are absolutely “ones to die for”. Open from 9:30 am to 2 pm the average cost of eating here for two people is around 150 Rs.
