DU Admissions 2014: Reservations & quotas
Delhi University’s admission process commenced on June 2, 2014 and candidates can submit their application forms till June 16, 2014. The University will be releasing the first cut-off list for its current admission process on June 24, 2014.
Candidates can apply for admissions at around 77 affiliated colleges at Delhi University (DU). This year it is expected that approximately 1.5 lakh candidates will be applying to fill a total of 54,000 seats on offer by the University.
However, DU offers some quotas and reservations under which students can apply for admissions at the University’s 86 academic departments spread over North Campus and South Campus.
DU Admissions 2014: Reservation of seats
The reservations under which candidates can apply for admissions at DU are as follows:
Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) Candidates
- 22½% of the total numbers of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribes (15% for Scheduled Caste and 7½% for Scheduled Tribes, interchangeable, if necessary).
- Relaxation to the extent of 5% in the minimum marks will be given to candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes to determine their eligibility and merit for admission to the course concerned.
- In case, after giving 5% relaxation, the reserved seats still remain vacant, further relaxation would be given to the extent required in order to fill up all the reserved seats.
Other Backward Classes (OBC)
- A total of 27% seats will be reserved for the candidates belonging to the OBC category.
- OBC candidates shall be given a relaxation of 10% in the minimum eligibility marks of the said course and in the admission entrance test 10% of the minimum eligibility marks prescribed for General Category candidates.
Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
Around 3% seats in all undergraduate and postgraduate institutions (including professional and technical institutions) will be reserved for candidates having minimum 40% physical disabilities.
Candidates falling under the PwD category will be given fee waiver/ fellowships as per the below mentioned conditions:

Armed Forces
A total of 5% seats in each course have been reserved for Children / Widows of Officers and Men of the Armed Forces including Para-Military Personnel, in the order of preference given below:
- Widows / Wards of defence personnel killed in action.
- Wards of serving personnel and ex-servicemen disabled in action.
- Widows / Wards of defence personnel who died in peace time with death attributable to military service.
- Wards of defence personnel disabled in peace time with disability attributable to military service
- Wards of ex-servicemen personnel and serving personnel including police personnel who are in receipt of Gallantry Awards.
Kashmiri Migrants
Relaxation upto 5% in the minimum marks in aggregate or in the subject, as the case may be, will be given to candidates who apply for admissions under the Kashmiri Migrants category.
Foreign Students
DU has prescribed a 5% quota for foreign students. All foreign students even those who have completed their schooling from an Indian Board may be considered under this quota.
Sports/ECA Quota
The University has advised all colleges to keep aside not more than 5% seats for candidates falling under the sports/extracurricular activities (ECA). Click here to read more about DU’s ECA/sports quota admissions.
Girl Child
Some colleges at DU are even offering concession (in percentage) to girl candidates in the admission process which is currently taking place at the University.
