DU College admission through lottery?
Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has proposed to enrol students through lottery for the new four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP). Delhi University is yet to approve this recommendation. But if approved, the system will be applicable to all DU colleges. Catch up on DU updates here
The college has 252 seats in BCom (H), but admits around 300 pupils every year owing to college's admission policy and dropout rate. With FYUP, the number of students studying BCom(H) in the college at a time (three-year degree) will go up from 900 to 1200. The increased number will add more burden on the college's limited infrastructure, thus impacting the quality of education. This is a concern with various other colleges too. Therefore, the college has proposed a lottery-based admission policy to fill up the empty seats after the first cutoff.
While DU authorities claim that the varsity has a dropout rate of 20-30%, college principals state that this does not impact the actual sanctioned student strength. Most colleges admit more than the seats available, keeping in mind the dropout rates.
