Indraprastha University (IP) in Delhi has a Beautiful Campus!

A first look at the Indraprastha University (IP) campus can be awe-inspiring for a student just out of school. Towering buildings overlooking the greens, breathtaking landscaping, and a fun crowd...

"We really like this place," says Megha Kalia, a first year student. "We were the first ones to be shifted here from the previous campus at Kashmere Gate and the place clicked instantly. We have very fond memories of our fresher's party. Though it wasn't huge because of the construction work going on, but it was fun. Now that the admissions are on, we can't wait to meet the incoming batch. This year we'll have a huge fresher's party to make our juniors feel good and carry on the legacy of our seniors," she adds.

USP: The university boasts of a sprawling lush green state-of-the-art campus spread over 60 acres. It houses a centrally air-conditioned University Information Resource Centre (not a library, mind you) that has a collection of more than 40,000 books, 300-plus print journals and 10,000-plus E resources.

Faculty: The university has around 500 faculty members.

Programmes: BTech, MTech, MCA, MSc (environment management), MSc (forensic science), MSc (criminology), BArch, BCA, BBA, MBA, BMC, BSc (Hons) nursing, BJ(MC), BPharma, BEd, LLB, LLM, MBBS and Ph.D are some of the programmes offered. The new courses introduced recently are bachelor of ayurvedic medicine, RF and microwave engineering, postgraduate programmes in international business etc.

IT quotient: The university website is very comprehensive and gives out all admission details. Applicants can apply online, where the brochure is also available. The campus will be wi-fi enabled in the coming months.

Infrastructure: The institute, which is also differently-abled-friendly (with built in ramps), has ultra-modern infrastructure in place with water harvesting and water treatment facilities along with vehicular-free pedestrian paths. Students love the library: "we bunk classes to sit in the library, see we are such dedicated students," laughs Divya Varun, a first year student. "The ambience at the resource centre is really nice. A good amount of natural light and skylights along with the AC is what draws students," she adds.

The resource centre is fully computerised. As a part of its online services, the centre also offers students the flexibility of accessing resources from home. One can log in with one's ID and access books and journals from any corner of the world.

Studentspeak: "Poori dilli IP ke bharose hi to chalti hai (All of Delhi relies on IP). All my friends are doing some course or the other from the university. The campus is beautiful, lively and life here is really exciting. The classrooms are spacious, seniors are extremely helpful and teachers are good - what else would we want," gushes Himadri Pal, a first year biotechnology student.

Clubs and societies: The annual youth festival, Anugoonj, is organised every year in February. This year the fest saw performances by Stereo Nation and Astitva. Different schools within the university also celebrate individual fests. SAInT (Students Association of Information Technology) organises Infoxpression; Synergy (student council of management students); and Seed, the society for environment education, also organise various activities round the year.

The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University came into existence in 1998 in Delhi as a teaching and affiliating university. It has, in a short span of 12 years, emerged as one of the giants both in professional and technical education

Wishlist

"Since we have shifted here, things have become really strict. Discipline is important, but unnecessary overdose of it is not required. Besides, there is no room to play since construction work is continuing. Wish this gets over soon and we get the playground back," says a first-year engineering student

Taaza Khabar

Admissions are on at the university for various programmes. Besides that Sanshalation, the three-day fest organised by REACT (students association of university school of chemical technology) will be on from March 17. The highlight of the fest remains the jam sessions planned for all days. Major events of this fest are technical paper presentation, poster presentations, street play, Harry Potter quiz, cryptography, etc

Timepass

The stairs near the canteen draw flocks of students. The Janakpuri District Centre, Café six10 and Rajouri Garden are places where students go to grab a cuppa or catch the latest flicks

College Ke Baad

For us, the transition from college to office is very smooth compared to students from other universities. I stand indebted to Dr NK Kakkar, director general at Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Studies.
