JNU: the new UG destination?
Soon, you can opt to pursue three-year Bachelor of Arts and Science studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
The varsity has sent a proposal to the University Grants Commission (UGC) for starting undergraduate (UG) studies in arts and science streams. At present, it offers only UG language courses.
These programmes, formulated over a year, will allow students opt for courses in other streams thereby giving them more choices to study. For instance, a science student can opt for Humanities subjects like Sociology, Political Science, and Economics etc. An official informed that in third year, students will specialise in a subject that could lead to postgraduate research. New courses will be taught under the credit-based system.
Currently, the varsity offers MA, MPhil, PhD degrees and BA in various languages. However, there are no plans to start UG commerce studies.
The move to offer three-year UG courses by JNU is interesting since Delhi University is moving away from the traditional three-year format. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has launched a three year BCom (H) course from this academic session.
