After passing the 10th grade, I opted for the Commerce stream as it interests me the best. The basic reason was my growing fascination for Accountancy and understanding the sphere of Economics. After I gave my Class 12th exam, I had only one aim - to get admission in the most prestigious university of our country, University of Delhi, for my higher studies. After the declaration of the result, my best four stood at 87.5 percent, which initially I thought was enough to get admission in the university, but as the merit lists unfolded a week later, I started to lose confidence as the cut-offs were very high. In the end, in the 7th cut-off, I finally met the cut-off of Swami Shraddhanand College where I opted for BA (Hons) English; the reason being the broad scope of the program. And yes, English had always enticed me. Ultimately, I went for the program.

The admission process of Delhi University is quite puzzling and lengthy, so adhere to the instructions and take care of your documents. The best thing to prepare for any university or entrance exam, which you are aiming for, is self-study on a daily basis. And yes, concentration is the pill for success.

The college infrastructure was decent. I studied for 3-4 hours on a daily basis to get good marks. The course is not rocket science. You just have to be focused for those 3 hours in which you are studying. Normally, what most of the students do is they start their preparation when the exams approach, which ultimately opens the panic door. The best thing is to be focused even if you are studying for even 1 hour. That 1 focused hour would work equivalently to 3 unfocussed hours of study, so focus. Regularity is the key to success.

Talking about my 3 years of college, it was like a journey which taught me many things with respect to academics. The college life not only transformed me into a bright student but also taught me the basic ethics of the professional environment.

The first year introduced me to the world of literature in different regions, from Classical literature (Europe/England) to literature in the western region. I studied about William Shakespeare, Geoffrey Chaucer, Rabindranath Tagore, Salman Rushdie, etc. In short, the essence of literature showcases the very aspect of history, political science and ultimately, delineating the traditions, customs and traditions of various societies, which not only fascinate us but also provide the ground reality of various contemporaries. Basically, the course delineates the ground reality of various societies whether it is from medieval period or from the post-colonial society. It gives you the proper description of that particular region.

After the completion of the second year, I did an internship as a content head with an NGO named Save The Quest, which basically works for disabled students. Going for an internship in your college life is a must as it introduces you to the practical world and gives you an upper hand over other students when you go for an interview in any firm. After the completion of my graduation, I got placed in a PR firm as a content creator.

The basic scope for an English Honors graduate is to work as a content creator. So without wasting any time, I joined the firm as it was my first job and experience is a must in any field. There, I worked between accounts people, technicians and people from the PR department. The work was good and not hectic, luckily. I worked there for 8 months, which not only provided me with the overview of the industry but also shaped me as a professional.

I think the course has a broad aspect, which after its completion provides you the opportunity to go in various sectors like PR, content creation, etc. You can further go for higher education to become a professor. That is one of the basic reasons to go for that particular course- as ultimately, it would shape you into an organized student and lead you to become a better professional. The selection of career is not a cake-walk. You have to search for days to find a place which is both suitable and provides you with a good career opportunity.

Any college in Delhi University would work as an ideal match for an aspiring student. It would shape you professionally with the help of genuine professors who would guide you in every possible way whether it is related to the course or career opportunities.

The education quality is definitely a thing which a student of Delhi University always brags about. If you have any interest related to drama and theatre, then also you can go for this course as it has various subjects related to creative writing, sections of classical literature like Rasa, Natyashastra, etc. that would help the student not only in the academic sphere but also in the cultural sphere. At last, it is your interest and instincts which will help you to decide the career. Don’t panic at any stage of life, just go with your inner feeling. First, find out about your field of interest and the career which you want to pursue, and not the one which is popular or not even the one which your parents want you to pursue. In the end, it is all about making the right decisions and understanding your will that would lead to a good and happy career.
