National Institute of Mountaineering to be set up in Arunachal Pradesh
Good news for those candidates who wish to make their career in mountaineering and other related sports. The government has approved a Defence Ministry Proposal to set up a mountaineering and adventure sports training institute at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh. The decision to set up the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) in Arunachal Pradesh was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet.
The purpose of establishing this institute is to train defence and paramilitary personnel and it will provide training for activities related to mountaineering, aero and aqua-adventure. The institute will work as an autonomous body under the defence ministry.
The institute would be the first national institute of its kind where students will be given theoretical and practical training. Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni stated that the trainees for the various courses will be from all parts of India and abroad and it will include personnel from defence forces, paramilitary forces, NCC cadets, civilians and students sponsored by state governments.
It is also being expected that it will generate further indirect employment in the region and will also boost the economy of the common people. She also said that, the systematical training in the activities will increase the number of visitors from all parts of the country to the remote areas of this border state and their interaction with the locals will result in development of the region.
