Panjab University (PU) has been ranked as #1 University in India by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings list 2013-14. Its international ranking of #226 is higher than that of IITs and other leading universities of India.

The university has more than 70 departments and 188 affiliated colleges spread over Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh & Regional Centres at Muktsar, Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur.

PU was established in 1882 at Lahore. Post-partition in 1947, the varsity was split into two – Indian Punjab which is now known as Panjab University and Pakistani Punjab, known as Punjab University.

The college has won the Panjab University Womens General Efficiency Sports Shield 37 times in its 43 years of existence.
