UGC Approved Central Universities – West & Central India
A central university, also known as a union university is set up by an Act of Parliament and administered by the Department of Higher Education. The Department of Higher Education falls under the Union Human Resource Development Ministry of the Government of India.
A central university can award its own degrees to students. However, it is not allowed to grant affiliation to colleges. Generally, universities in India are recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Currently, there are 46 central universities in India offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes to students in different disciplines.
