Where arts meet commerce
The L S Raheja College of Arts and Commerce falls under the Sadhana Education Society and is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. It was founded in 1980. It is an NAAC accredited ‘A’ grade college.
Courses offered
The college offers courses for junior college, graduate as well as postgraduate degrees. Since the college is for arts and commerce, the subjects offered at the degree level are BA, B Com, B Com (financial markets), B Com (accounting and finance) as well as BMM (bachelor in mass media), BMS (bachelor in management studies) and BBI (bachelor in banking and insurance). At the postgraduate level the college offers courses in M Com and has a research centre for PhD in business administration, trade, transport and industry as well as English literature. The college, however, offers a single course in B Sc (information technology).
Apart from the regular ones, the college offers add-on courses that run parallel to the main courses. These add-on courses include language fluency, travel andtourism, mass communication and journalism, animation and graphics, retail management. These courses aim to empower students with market-relevant skills and increase their job prospects.
Extra-curricular activities
The college has a large array of extra curricular activities conducted by a variety of clubs and associations. These include the Students’ Council, the Commerce Association, the Rotaract Club of Raheja College, the Marathi Vangmay Mandal, the Women’s Development Cell, the NSS cell etc.
The college holds an annual college ‘week’ known as ‘Unmesh’, which consists of the personality contest and rose day, the traditional day, mehendi, thali and rangoli decoration competitions, the dustbin and banner decoration competitions, antakshari competitions etc.
The college also holds an Independence Day rally and annual day celebrations every year.
Infrastructure
The L.S Raheja College library houses a total of 18472 books, more than 30 journals and 255 CD-ROMs. The college keeps the library staff up-to-date with technical literacy training, maintenance of the computer catalogs, computer and server administration etc. The library also has collaborations with other libraries.
The college Gymkhana organises several inter collegiate sports events in cricket, football, table tennis, carom and chess etc. In the past, the college cricket team reached the 3rd round at the university level as well as the finals of the Bengal League Cricket Tournament at the triangular series organised by the M M K College.
Apart from this, the college has a well-equipped computer lab, a boy’s common room, a girl’s common room, a canteen and an auditorium in the college campus.
